Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Nice that your dad likes Tech! I hope that he isn't disappointed in you. If you think that you need to protect Mel from Geezer, you are in way over your head. And if you are unable to see why Mel would stay at Tech - after he chose to play for Tech rather than U of M - well, that's just a prime display of a characteristic that U of M alfa fans are sometimes accused of.

Great game last night! Hoping for more of the same tonight . . . with Tech winning by one goal.

My dad went to Tech long before most posters here were born. My roots are firmly in the UP, especially since we have land south of Houghton, and my parents were just there. That, and I also did hockey school up at Tech.

Mel becoming the next head coach at Michigan- 95% of those threads come from Tech fans. Why is that? The other 5% are Michigan replying to that. You guys seem like there's a good reason that he will leave, else you would not bring it up. If anything you can learn from Michigan fans- have some confidence in yourself.

So why so many of you want us to hate you so much is beyond me. I may dislike many of the more obnoxious fans. But I will always have Tech #2 on my list and I will always like the fans that I've come to know. Your attempt to take that away is, well... whatever.

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Possibly, scared to see the quote in the Detroit news, but if it happens, I'm not sure who could keep what we have going as it would be devastating to the Tech program. look at WMU, they are already dropping from a peak under Blashill and Murray's first year.

Can't compare WMU's apparent drop to the MTU situation. The Broncos had NHL talent already in place that left early after Michigan bounced them in two straight last season in Kzoo. The year before they also had a couple early departures. It's hard to backfill talent like that- we know, Minnesota, Wisconsin, BC etc knows. But when your program is just starting to recruit talent like Mel is, it takes 4-5 years to change the perception that this is the place to be over the above name schools and others. It's not about loyalty, it's about opportunity. It will be a no brainer from that standpoint.

Red was told and agreed, that Michigan hockey program won't just hire from within. That is why Mel re-thought the Tech job and left. Mel even admitted that, even as an assistant for 23 years doing everything a HC typically does, it is different when you are the guy. He needed to experience that. The next step in his future is up to him. If he stays, Tech will be a much better program for it. If he doesn't it is mostly for reasons I mentioned.

Hey. You watch that right now. :p

LOL. Well at least I didn't say go Wayne, or GVSU, Hillsdale,Northwood or Sagnasty Valley etc. But I guess what would be more appropriate for Tech football fan would be.. GO NMU!

(I didn't even know St. Norbert played football, Hammer. Soooory.)

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

I went to Tech for 4 years and never went to a football game. Div 2 who cares!

If Red retires tomorrow and Mel is offered the job, he's taking it. Archive this so you remember I said it.

Solid arguments, particularly when coupled with the DetNews quotes. I will archive your prediction because what happens at U of M and MTU over the next couple of years is going to be hugely interesting. I agree that Tech is better for having Mel back, and as you say, the next step is up to him. I just don't accept the assertion of some that there is no reason for him to stay.

No, I was just poking at the MSU elitists that claim that U-M is the only school that has non-grad fans.

I've lived in Ann Arbor and I've lived in Houghton and I like Houghton better. If Mel wants to move back to Saline and be the hockey coach at a football school, then he's not the coach I think he is.

Whoever follows Red is in a no win situation. There's no upside. If he wins, he's just maintaining Red's program. If he loses, then he's a failure. Following a legend is a tough act and it's rare to see back-to-back legends. If Red cared about Michigan hockey, he would have retired and let Mel takeover. At this point, Red is all about Red. Get the heck out of the way old man and let someone else have a turn. Sheesh. And Red's world just got a lot tougher having to play Minnesota and Wisconsin on a regular basis.

What most of you are missing is that Mel has coached enough years to retire. He doesn't need another gig after Tech.

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Can't exactly say that was a good game. Other than late in the first period, the game was pretty emotionless. Just as bad, not much flow generated by either team- yes, both teams managed to cycle the puck somewhat, but neither really sustained it. Just not a pretty game all around.

Nobody got hurt, thankfully, but a lot of pretty bone head penalties for both sides. Really did a great job slowing the game down and breaking up all momentum.

It appears that Tech can be a good team, and Michigan can be a good team, but if you watched this game without anything in the past, one would not think much of either team.

You're ignorant, too. re-read the post I made about the conditions for being hired as Michigan's HC. The rest is just bitter rubbish.

I stand by my analysis. Re-reading your posts changes nothing. You're typical of the arrogant snobs that infest A2. It used to be a nice little town.

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Congratulations to Michigan on two hard fought wins. You have a really fast and high skill team. The fans around me treated me with class and I appreciate it.
