Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

“I’m sure they’ll be excited to play here,” Berenson said. I love this guy. This is old school trash talk, you kick a guy in the face and make it look like you're just brushing some lint off his shoulder. :)

Left unsaid is the common assessment that Berenson is a geriatric fraud who was held up as a front for the team all those years because Mel didn't feel like doing the interviews, and that the Michigan hockey program is floundering way out of their depth the last couple years without a coach.

This, coming from a fan of a program that has been a "floundering fraud" for the last 30+ seasons.

Say what you will about Berenson, but it was a collective effort by he, Pearson and Powers that led Michigan's resurgence in the late 80's. What is wrong about your statement is that it is a "common assessment". Only by tools that like to take disrespectful shots at one of the best coaches in the NCAA in the past three decades.

HEY, I didn't say anything bad about coach Pearson or Tom Izzo. :)

Read this.

It may explain why Red was allowing Pearson and Powers to recruit and lead the team.

I like how that article is nine years old there are still questions about if Pearson will take over for Red when he retires.

How is it possible that Pearson has led Tech to their second best back-to-back seasons in team history? I guess that will happen when your program goes from a span a greatness to a just as long span of ineptitude.

Actually if you check your records (as I deftly suggested to our Michigan Daily staff) Pearson is tied for 3rd best wins by a coach in his first two seasons at MTU hockey. Nahrgang had 41 in 2 seasons preceding MacInnes, (82-84) Mancini had 30 (92-94) then Newell Brown (90-92) and Pearson at 29.

The point of the article was to show that Berenson wanted to put his assistant coaches in a position to take over a head coaching job. Berenson had already started the turnaround at Michigan when Pearson was hired in 1988. Pearson and Powers were/are vital in the recruiting process... but the point is..Red still ran the show and was the architect of the success no matter how much outsiders suggest otherwise.

It took Berenson five seasons to be competitive and then another two to make the NCAA playoffs. I am sure, given the same hard work and recruiting, that Mel will be just as successful- possibly sooner. Tough to make a comparison 20+ years later as to how the environment in NCAA hockey will affect that, as well as other factors surrounding the MTU program. I am guessing that the environment for success is much tougher. There is less ability to draw the NHL caliber talent (especially the Canadian talent) that was available back in the late 80's-90's. That means that recruiting US talent or "under the radar" talent is more vital now against the established hockey powers.

The questions that were raised, as always, were speculative. Hindsight is a great thing.

What you don't seem to understand is that this is the internet. The entire point is to take shots at people, which in turn ****es off other people with thin skin, like you.

Funny, I thought that the point of the internet was porn...

People that use the internet to flame, troll and otherwise add no useful content are put on IGNORE, which I have gladly done.

Do you really think your team is so lifeless that they will not be excited to play at a place where their head coach was for over 20 years? Man, you really think lowly of your team.

That's really too bad, since Mel needs all of the support he needs at this point.

If you really think that Michigan is that bad, I can't really imagine how that translates to Tech in your mind. Maybe if you spent your energy picking them up instead of putting them down like that, there would be more optimism for the future. That's too bad for Tech- since my dad really would like to see them good again. But with support like you guys give them, it's going to take wonders. And I don't see how Mel would imagine staying there, too. Sad.

I think you missed my point by a country mile. The team I was belittling was the one made up of little girl figure skaters with the weird stripey helmets from Ann Arbor. Go back and try again.
(this is really fun, makes up for the Northern fans suddenly growing thick-skinned the last couple years)

MGoBlueTV video $tream.

For Michigan fans, get one. You get a ton of great stuff with the package. I'm on the football pass which runs through January and then I'm going to yearly $80 package.
I take it tonights game isn't available for PPV? I have to sign up for a month of MGoBlue.tv to get ONE GAME?

Re: Michigan Tech vs Michigan at Yost Time for tBig Time

Speaking of stupid and ugly: I hope you leave the skating huskie thingy at home. The last time a mascot dressed up like a dog skated on Yost ice there was a near pre-game brawl and he got jacked by our back up netminder's blocker.
I'm pretty sure that Blizzard doesn't travel to away games. But hey, at least we HAVE a mascot...like most institutions of higher learning. Oh wait, "The Athletic Department has steadfastly maintained that such a symbol is unnecessary and undignified and would not properly reflect the spirit and values of Michigan athletics." They're right, a student dressed as a giant $100 bill would more accurately reflect the spirit and values of Michigan athletics... ;)

No, I'm not missing anything- if we are little girl figure skaters, you really feel quite low of your own team- it's amazing that they let you pretend to be some kind of 'fan' of tech since you belittle them like that. Sad and shocking for a program of tech stature. You must think your school fields a bunch of beginning skaters that need chairs to move them around the ice. I feel bad for Mel that he has fans like you to have to work around. He's a good guy, and deserves a lot better.

Why is that so bad? Not everyone needs some kind of idol that they bow to so that the school retains fans.
