I grew up in A2. I know A2 better than you. I did Science Fairs plus numerous Boy Scout events in Yost when I was a kid. I graduated from Huron High. I was back in A2 in March clearing out my mom's house. I always tell people, Ann Arbor isn't a city, it's a cult. That's why they do stupid things like cut down beautiful blue spruce trees to put up UGLY solar panels right along Plymouth Road.
That said, U of M is a football school. Always will be. That's why the hockey and basketball arenas are named for football coaches. So while you arguably have the most impressive record in college hockey, they won't rename Yost to Red's Barn when he retires/dies, which at the current rate, may be the same day.
If you go to a game, be sure to go to Cottage Inn pizza near the Diag. Lorenzo the manager is a big Mel fan and told me stories of the hockey team coming in for pizza. Next walk through
Nickels Arcade. It's one of the few remaining "Pure" Ann Arbor places. If you get there early on Friday, the pub grub in the bar at the Gandy Dancer is delicious and cheap during
Happy Hour 3:30 to 6:30 PM.
Since Mel coached at U of M for 20+ years, it will feel like a home game to him. I'm sure it will be a competitive series.
