Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

Another night another loss.

Jamie's postgame thoughts:
heartbreaker, being down 4-1 and coming back
we had a complete 60 min effort tonight
breakout much better, D men working together
good passing tape to tape
generated 36 shots and not a lot of PP time
great to see Baker get on track, 3 points
1st/2nd lines were good
3/4th line need to make sure they're strong defensively
End of game strategy: be careful not to just take slap shots with AA packing in around the goal
We had some chances, but couldn't get handle on the puck

Tonight's game is proof that the hockey gods hate us this year. We outplayed UAA basically the whole game, and we still end up losing. It's like we just can't catch a break or get any bounces in our favor no matter what. What do we have to do to appease you, o gods of hockey? I would suggest sacrificing a virgin, but there is no where near enough of those up here to waste.

Instead, I will offer this up to you:

Screw it. We're now hockey atheists.

If anyone in Houghton reads this, I am in need of a ride to the DT, because Flashy left to go visit Diva in Marquette. Please help a friend in need. :)

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

A student can pick up their free ticket on a game by game basis. I like some other Misfits have chosen to pay $84 to have student season tickets.

Worst idea ever, I wonder if I can return the rest of the tickets claiming the quality the product I bought to see didnt live up to expectations:rolleyes:

As an "outsider," even I am now on the Time For A Change bandwagon. :(

As I mentioned to ShirtlessGuy last night, you guys can't expect to be a top 3 WCHA team, but you could easily be in the "fighting for home ice" range.

Taking the cue from that Oregon (or was it Oregon State?) football fan earlier this season, I almost wrote to Russell to ask for a $12 refund on the cost of my ticket to the Michigan State game, on the grounds that the team failed to meet my competitive expectations.

I didn't though. In hindsight, I should've done it just to see if I would get a response. ;)

I wouldn't say that much.

With the stacked WCHA, I pretty much accepted that another 10th place finish was inevitable, with a marked improvement from last season's injuryfest (maybe 19-20 points or so.) Not only did we finish 10th that season, but we were a whopping 12 points out of 9th. It's tough to make that up in one season.

What has happened this season completely defies all logic. This team is in a death spiral and they need SOMETHING to happen.

My expectations aren't even that grand. I say that competing for home ice every three years, Final Five appearances three or four times a decade, and a realistic shot at a GLI championship every 4-5 years is reasonable in this day and age.

I can deal with losing as long as it's close. Consistent 3+ goal losses are not acceptable.

I'm looking at the 12 team WCHA though. 6th place to get home ice? I think that's not out of the realm of possibility. Even this year, they've played some good teams rather well. Yes, the blowouts are more than normal, but reverse a MN game here, a UAA game there, you might get those extra 5-6 points that may make a difference in home ice or not.
