Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

Former Tech Coach Amo Bessone Passes Away

Former Michigan Tech hockey coach Amo Bessone died Monday (Jan. 11) in New Mexico. He was 93. Bessone posted a 20-31-2 record in three seasons on the Huskies bench. He then moved on to Michigan State where he coached for 28 seasons with a record of 367-427-20 and led the Spartans to the 1966 national championship. He was also the Huskies coach in the first Winter Carnival in 1950 when they defeated Michigan State 11-3 and 10-0.

Born Nov. 22, 1916, Bessone was raised in West Springfield, Mass. He attended West Springfield High School and played at Hebron Academy and the Kent Hills School in Maine. He earned his undergraduate degree at Illinois in 1943, where he lettered in baseball in addition to hockey.

He moved onto an AHL career, but that was cut short due to his service in World War II.

He began his coaching career at Westfield (Mass.) High in 1946, and made his move into the college ranks at Michigan Tech two years later.

Bessone was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and Michigan State’s Hall of Fame in 1992.

I am hearing that Bolduc was vomiting in the hallway as he was being helped to the locker room.

John Scott is a goon :p

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

For everyone's info, my source with the department tells me that the AD will be meeting with Russell at the end of the year for a 'serious discussion' about the program's direction. Interpret that as you will, but the word is that Russell has lost a couple of recruits that he was aggressively targeting, due to the program's losing ways.

Just keeping the people informed. Over n' out.

Also heard that Mroz is very unhappy with the current state and may be wanting a change which, for us on the mainland, is good to hear.

As for those of us who haven't been voted off the island, I was thinking about recruiting after UtL's post. It looks like we're graduating six seniors this year, including four defensemen. Two are on the way in the fall, plus two (possibly three) forwards. Kero was originally listed as 2011, but is now 2010 or 2011.

By my math, Tech's tragic number is now 20. Any combination of 20 WCHA points gained by UAA and/or given up by Tech will ensure last place.

Tech's tragic number for 8th place with Mankato is 18.

You mean we haven't sewn it up already?

Anchorage's second half schedule provides plenty of chances for them to play well at home and take points from solid teams like Duluth and CC, even if they play down to us this weekend and choke one away.
