Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

i haven't posted here in a very long time, but i just needed to share this with some fellow tech fans. it's killing me that i won't be able to go to this game. i was born and raised in fargo, and as far as i could tell i was one of only two people from the state of north dakota attending mtu during my time there. i'm 33 now, and it's crazy that tech's most important game(s) in my lifetime are going to be played in my hometown. i live in edmonton now, and it'll be hard to get any tv coverage of these games, but i'll be listening and cheering on the boys. to all the fans, i hope you have a great time! go tech!

****. Finally get to go to a game, and sit next to an area called the "Ice Bar" and its an NCAA game, so the best they can do is ice water and 7-up.

If you're leaving from the Twin Cities, or passing through on your way, we're planning on all meeting up at the Fridley Park and Ride (the Northstar Line lot), at 8AM on Friday. It is one of the few that allow overnight parking, so people can ditch cars there if needed.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Seems like everyone else gets in on Friday so I'm guessing I'm going to have to rent a car.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

I am hoping we'll be rolling into town at about noon. I want to go straight to the arena, and get the festivities underway. May as well roll out the grills and beerdarts mat and enjoy ourselves. Does anyone know, do they provide sandbags and sump pumps to us, or do we have to bring our own? I imagine we'll have to do some work to a get a dry spot in the lot.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

There is 1 team between the Eastern border of MN and the Western border of NY that made the NCAA tournament this year. That has to be unprecedented. At least in the 12/16 team tournament eras.

There are 2, tech and Miami...

I said screw it and got a rental car, really not that much to be honest.

When you get into town, come tailgate with us. It would be fun to get a group of all/most of the Tech fans out there to come tailgate.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Your video throwback for this week is a most appropriate one. These are the highlights of the 1981 NCAA Consolation game victory over NMU in Duluth - the last time Michigan Tech played a game in the NCAA tournament.

https://youtu.be/gHhsluQ8QFk

A couple things to look for:

0:23 some of the band is wearing the original red striped bib overalls
0:26 the modern clap pattern for the fight song (clap...clap...clap clap clap) isn't used
1:15 the original skating Husky mascot - in a pairs routine with the original Wildcat Willy - skating to the Copper Country Anthem
2:28 the old car horn serenade that used to follow the fight song can be heard
4:52 both fan bases joining in for a "U.P. Power" chant as time expires
7:40 NMU shows off the 4th place trophy and receives decent applause
8:15 Mel Pearson receives his 3rd place medal
9:00 instead of the fight song, the band serenades the trophy with the Copper Country Anthem

I'm there a day earlier than everyone else lol so I will definitely hit up the tailgate. Have to decide what jersey(s) to bring and wear.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

think of every swear word you have ever heard. {place them here} ESPN!!!! ESPN3 IS NOT available to the general public. only on select cable systems, where you can pay separately to STREAM the game. ******* ESPN*******ESPN *******ESPN how long must we wonder in this wilderness? College hockey is not a "niche" sport, like say diving or equestrian events. its the third or fourth largest college sports and it deserves coverage. the NCAA needs to stop making these insane deals with ESPN. ESPN jerks them around because they can. if the NCAA had the balls to stand up to them and tell them you get the package if you carry the ENTIRE package, they could no doubt get it. and threaten them with pulling their little side deals with basketball and football. have the players and coaches boycott ESPN until they carry the whole tournament. or take it elsewhere.

For me, not even being born til 10 years later, this is awesome. The hair on these players makes me soooooooooooo happy. A piece of me wishes Mel still had the same hair! As per usual, the throwback videos are cool pieces of history and I thank you for that.

I attended these games with my dad as a 10 year old, and the building was as charged as any one I remember from my youth. Considering this was the first ever all-West final four and each team was no more than a 5 hour drive, you can understand why tickets were at a premium.

You're most welcome to have these posted. As a top-level college hockey program, it's important to understand where you came from and these videos can serve that purpose. I'll continue to post anything I can get my hands on.

It is one of only 2 games that will not be on ESPNU or ESPN2 this weekend...sad for sure...
