Quick Q&A
MITCH REINKE
STILLWATER, SR.
HOCKEY
A puck-moving defenseman with better-than-average speed and an innate hockey sense, Reinke has verbally committed to Michigan Tech.
What have you been doing with your summer? I’ve been working at the lumber yard and playing hockey, going to a few USHL camps.
What are your junior hockey options? I was thinking about playing for Cedar Rapids in the USHL. If not there, I could play for Aberdeen (S.D.) of the NAHL.
Are you coming back for your senior season? Yes, I am going to play high school hockey. I know I need to get bigger and stronger to play college hockey, but I think I can do that here at Stillwater.
Why did you decide to come back to high school hockey? I like playing with the boys I grew up with. It would be a lot of fun to lead them to Stillwater’s first state tournament ever.
Phil Housley is no longer the Stillwater head coach. How will that affect the team? Our new coach is Matt Doman. He was an assistant coach here and I know he’ll do a great job. He’s played a big role in our development.
Why Michigan Tech? I’d been talking with four or five other schools, but when I took a visit there, I really liked the campus and it’s an up-and-coming program. The coach there [Mel Pearson] is great. I got a great offer.
Will you play junior hockey before college? Yeah, I’ll play one, maybe two years of junior hockey after high school. I haven’t decided how long yet.
What is coolest place hockey has taken you? When I was 10 years old, we played in a tournament in Edmonton and stayed at the West Edmonton Mall. The tournament was actually at the rink at the mall, so we spent pretty much the whole week inside the mall. We left for maybe an hour or two.

I'm sure he will be thrilled to find out that, like Edmonton, Houghton also has a mall.
Wedding was good. Isle Royale was fun.
Really hope they don't use that crappy piped-in goal horn during the season, like they did during the alumni game.
Do they still have the regular sirens?
Yes, they used them during the wedding. However, a little birdy told me that they will no longer use them during games. He works for SLS, so he may actually be correct. If so, I'll be registering my complaints with Suzanne.
How about the goal horn that's up near the Pep Band? They better not get rid of that. If so, i will be registering a complaint with Les Cook.
That's what I was referring to. They stop using that, and I'll be helping lead the protests from afar.
Instead of just saying no to using the horn, do you have a suggested alternative or several of them?

I'm opposed to any and all goal horns, sirens, whistles, etc. on principle. The people can clap and click their dentures and shout encouragement like "well done sir!" to the sporting contestants if they so desire.
I once looked into the effects of the fire siren that was in use in the Calumet Colosseum and basically found out it was causing every kid in there permanent hearing loss. The Tech siren isn't nearly as bad, but I would much rather just do without it anyway. Too noisy.
what about all of us fans who don't have dentures, just gums, such as myself and possibly hf. after all we are real elderly. i'm good with my gums though. I can open beer bottles real easy and whistling is unique! Plus I'm nearly deaf, what with all the rock music I listened too, so i'd need a loud horn just to be able to tell something was going on. something on the order of 120 db should do perfectly. The people can clap and click their dentures and shout encouragement like "well done sir!" to the sporting contestants if they so desire. Too noisy.
A good goal horn is awesome. No other sound like it.
Really? That is one of the most idiotic takes I've read around here in a while.I'm opposed to any and all goal horns, sirens, whistles, etc. on principle. The people can clap and click their dentures and shout encouragement like "well done sir!" to the sporting contestants if they so desire.

Based on what I heard his signing bonus was, I highly doubt he's going to the WHL. Because he wasn't in the WHL, I doubt he goes there on an NHL contract. He'll be in the ECHL or AHL this year...
