Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

I would bet JJ left MTU because the Oilers wanted him to continue his development in a different environment. What will be telling is whether they will have him go to the WHL or to the ECHL. If he goes to the ECHL, I think it makes Tech look good (we developed him into a professional level player), but if he goes WHL, I think it's something of a vote of no confidence from Edmonton (he wasn't developing they way they hoped). Jujhar is a very young player for the ECHL and I would guess based on the assessments of his performance at Tech, that he's headed for the WHL. His loss is pretty big for Tech, as he was on track to develop into a top tier college player.

Based on what I heard his signing bonus was, I highly doubt he's going to the WHL. Because he wasn't in the WHL, I doubt he goes there on an NHL contract. He'll be in the ECHL or AHL this year...

Plenty of bonus babies end up in Majpr Junior. It will be interesting to see where the Oilers send him, to Bakersfield or to the WHL's Everett Silvertips. Do they want Troy Mann or Kevin Constantine in the next step of his development?

Yes but almost all of those bonus babies were in Major Junior when signed and the MJ/NHL agreement is that if they aren't a certain age and don't make NHL, they have to go MJ, can't go AHL or ECHL. If he ends up in MJ, I will feel its a bit of a slap in the face by Edmonton, but at the same time, its hard to blame JJ for taking the signing bonus.

Sad to see JJ go, he was a good player and we needed him. I also don't think he is mature enough, look at all the stupid penalties he took last year for retaliatory stuff etc. Another year to bulk up, improve your game and mature would have been good for him. Congrats and best of luck to him though, would love to see more Tech alums in the NHL, even if he is just a 1 year alum.

Dont see it posted anywhere here yet, but Michigan Tech Recruit Jake Jackson has his rights traded yesterday from Sioux City to Des Moines of the USHL.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

The Red Wings have three players on the NHL roster, who played significant minutes and played well, with a lower cap hit than that. If this was the Russell era I could see this, but it's not and it makes no sense to me.
You never know what goes on inside though. I don't think he could turn down the money, but Edmonton is not looking all that intelligent.

Starbucks is ok, excited about what the Tech hockey team is going to accomplish this season!!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

bad news about JJ, I was hoping we'd see an announcement on the new volunteer coach, not early departures.

Does anyone have insight on if we go with the existing roster or do we bring a forward in a year earlier than expected?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

With 17 Fwds I would think they probably keep on their schedule due to the fact that Pietila will more than likely be leaving after this year and D. Johnstone might think about starting his pro career as well. This could give Vallis and Neville more time as a result. Will Holmberg or J.Johnstone claim the third line center?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

isnt it amazing? just a few short years ago, we NEVER had to talk about who might leave early.

(stealing this line from a cute little shop I know, but still) Have tMel as your coach and life will be a joy forever.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

tMel wished us good luck on ceremony today :D

He took in some of the rehearsal.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

Good luck to JJ he will be missed and I'm sure tMel will handle things.

As a reminder though, look at some of the most recent teams in the finals that had NO NHL prospects. Hockey being a true high level TEAM sport, team play seems to be much more a key to success.
