Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

If it was me, which it's not, I'd vote Tanner Kero for team captain this year.

Ah, I'll probably pass on ND then too. Not just prices, but I can't even imagine the massive crowds that must take over South Bend on USC weekend.

NtD is easy if you're on a non-pigkin weekend, as all the hotels that are well-situated to campus really need the customers. We opened in South Bend several years ago and it was easy.

Any new uniform looks this season?
We'll keep white & golds. We are redoing the black ones. They'll look a lot like the Boston Bruins jersey's form last night. We'll have a 4th jersey for the GLI this year, a throwback form early 60s that Reebok will make. We signed a new deal with Reebok and CCM. It looks sharp.

I would be thrilled to show up at GLI and see this on the ice. I'm not sure what else there would be from the 1960's era other than the current "Huskies" crest.

Tech did a similar jersey in 1993-94, but it was pretty bland as a largely white jersey.

Will Tech go with 18 fwd, 8 D dependent on whether Ericsson arrives this year, and the 3 goalies.
Total of 29, I think the same as last year

Wow,
Marcus Zelzer just tweeted that he passed the NCAA clearinghouse now after having issues that cost him his spot on the roster for this Fall. I'm wondering why MTU rushed to replace him when there was a hiccup? We obviously don't know the details but I gotta feel like this was handled poorly if Zelzer is now cleared and could have played for MTU in 2013-14.

I liked Zelzer's size, but Wintjes seems like he might be a bit stronger at least on paper. Zelzer is pretty old (20) for a NAHL goalie, while Wintjes is a full year younger and he put up some better numbers in what I consider a slightly more competitive league. I would guess the two goalies were very close on the coaches' list, so it was pretty easy to go with the alternative when the hiccup happened. I would also bet Wintjes had other options and wasn't going to wait around forever. It'll be interesting to see who picks up Zelzer. This wouldn't be the first time the NCAA's "due diligence" ended up costing a player and a program.

I understand why it happen on paper but Michigan Tech chose Zelzer first. It sure seems like he deserved the chance if they picked him first. Wintjes probably pressed the issue and got MTU to commit before he went elsewhere. I understand why but in the real world I don't think it comes across as an upstanding move.

I think it reflects more poorly on the idiotic NCAA as opposed to Tech. Tech would have no idea how long the NCAA was going to drag this out, it turned out to be a hiccup but when the NCAA is involved it easily could have been more. Being that the season is just months away now, I don't see how they could have waited around for the NCAA to rule one way or another.

That is very true. I can agree with this to a point depending on the hiccup, but I don't have more information at this time.

Recruiting is recruiting - it doesn't always work out. Remember everything they did to try and get Zabotel past the clearinghouse? As soon as the NCAA flags a guy for additional investigation, most coaches won't take the chance of waiting.

I happened to be in Omaha recently and stayed at the doubletree in downtown. I do not recommend anyone who might be going there stay here. I ended up paying almost 500 dollars for one night. Seemed like an awful lot for what I thought was a 150 dollar room.
just fyi.

Oh agreed, it's normal for rates to rise during special events, and I expected that. What I didn't expect was that the rate would rise to such a high level or that it would rise after I had already checked in.

I've stayed at the Courtyard several times. Walking distance to Arena, the Old Market and the pedestrian bridge over the river. Great location, reasonably priced and outstanding rooms & service.
