My brother-in-law is connected with Tech's program and he said over a week ago that this was the likely outcome based on what local talk was. His source said Muckalt to Tech if Pearson leaves.

I have to say I'm bitterly disappointed. And that's an understatement.
if its Muckalt than that means it's just a stepping stone again and we can look forward to another change in 3 or 4 years.

imho he's the best coach in college hockey. Second, it will set us back quite a bit, and third,i'm sure Michigan went after him full bore because really there was no one else and the alumni wanted him. The AD had to do whatever it took to get him. But it makes us look impotent if you ask me, that no matter what we did, he was leaving. IF in fact he is leaving.

If it is true I hope it is soon so we can move on.

I doubt UofM is worried about waiting until after May 16th when his buyout drops from $300k to $250k.

I saw that, too, but they're basing their reporting on Buccigross' tweet.

Either way, I think you have a coaching search on your hands.

They are only citing the Buccigross tweet, but still not a good sign.

The AHCA convention in Naples starts Wednesday, so I'd expect an announcement (if this is true) Monday or Tuesday.

good question. I like Muckalt but I don't think he's anywhere near coach Pearson. I know for a fact that Tech offered a big raise, but apparently it wasn't enough to dissuade him. And I really don't want to be looking for another coach in three years. that's no way to run a good program.

Muckalt wouldn't be in my top 5. I just remember he recruited Anderson from his New Mexico team. I disagree, you take the best possible candidate for as long as they are willing to stay.

So who makes up your top five. I'm not as high on the Muckalt train as some but don't think he would be a bad hire.

well sure but we need to get to a point that we keep coaches. All the top programs keep them. if we are just a training ground then we ought to quit because we will never be competitive.

Not sure, but I posted a list earlier in no particular order. Let's just hope Tech has a good search committee. Who they target and who applies...
