Michigan Tech 2017-18 The Joe Shawhan Era Continues - Getting Better Everyday

These kind of people **** me off. It is not your business, or responsibility to worry about whether or not I have a beer while watching hockey, so shut the **** up.

Also, I'd say 2 beers should be allowed to be purchased at a time (this is standard at pretty much any arena that serves beer), so you can get one for you and one for the wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/buddy, etc.
How would you then make certain that the second beer doesn’t end up in the hands of someone who is under 21? In the State of Michigan, not only is the license holder liable, getting fined and having points against their license and increased insurance, the server also get fined and charged with a misdemeanor. Even if there is a “bouncer” or designated ID checker, the server is still 100% liable for where the beer goes. Now, if the alcohol is only permitted within an enclosed area, and is limited to 21 & over, there’s no problem with 2 at a time.

At NMU, it’s one beer at a time, but it is allowed to be taken to seats for hockey. Basketball and football have beer garden areas.

I can tell you the administration already gets heat from alumni about the behavior of students, especially at GLI and other games where they don't go to the games regularly. For my part, I see your points but i'd hate to see it turn into Wisconsin. I'd never take my kid to a Wisconsin game.

What?

From what I observed, the administration has already neutered the "official" student section and the band, so who cares what the remaining Alzheimer's patients think? I know that's a cruel and harsh characterization, but I'm so tired of this argument, and it goes all the way back to 2007 and Judy Szyzwhatthefcuk her name is from Chassel b*tching in the local paper about the newspapers and the "Who Cares!?" chant at the NMU starting lineup (which I noticed this past weekend still has the papers, but the "Who Cares?!?!" is gone ). Seems Judy and her posse have finally won. The Misfits and the band have been completely neutered.

"A-N-A-L - Come. From. Behind!" - Gone.
"S-E-X" - Score!" - Gone.
"I've got a rope, I've got a tree...all we need is a referee!" Gone.

The band cheers during the PK ditty? "Oreos and beer", "Counterstrike and porn", "Chocolate sauce and sex", "Vicodin and Jack", etc. All gone.

Well, the "Who Cares" chant and the paper thing are mutually exclusive, always have been, if they do the paper like they're ignoring the other team cheering who cares would defeat that, they still did it at every other game this season.

I'm also pretty sure I've hear the rope and tree chant and they still do the bull sheet so not everything is gone.

The Bull Sheet is still there, I'll give you that. But I was told by a student volunteer this weekend that "Rope and Tree" is out for Section L.

Sad. I started that chant at one of the Vegas games, some snowflake students look horrified, and wanted me to stop...yeah, no chance. What is the administration going to do to me? Its not like I'm a student...they can't do ****.

Oh for ****s sake. Its not that difficult. If the rest of the country can figure this out, Michigan sure as hell can too. Sell 2 beers, require IDs for both, no problem whatsoever.

Besides, how can the ALL MIGHTY NMU!!! guarantee that someone with an ID doesn't give their beer to a minor?????? That would be a ****ing atrocity! I don't know how we'd ever get through the day if a single 19 year old drank a sip of beer. THE HUMANITY!!!!

Give me a ****ing break.

I’m just telling you what the laws and liabilities are and why venues will limit sales to one at a time. Sorry you don’t like the laws, but for the license holder and the server, they are very real.

The risk is the same whether you sell 1 or 2. It is just as easy to buy one and hand it to a minor as it is to buy two and hand 1 to a minor. It is a silly argument.

not really and you know it. Honestly, I have absolutely no problem with the way MTU does it now, just wish they created a better setup to have a drink and watch the game.

Now Tech people are reputed to be among the smartest this side of the Ivy League. Wouldn’t selling two beers to an individual double the risk of selling one beer?

We used to do one at a time at LSSU but we have since switched to 2 per person. LSSU has never had any major incidents since they started and the risk is minimal. Enough security in the building mitigates the risk of minors getting beer. Making every single person stand in line to get beer made for long lines and grumpy fans. 2 per person seemed like a better choice all-around.

NMU consulted with LSSU before they started selling beer and at the time 1 per person was the agreed-upon policy at LSSU. It really depends on the administration at the University and how they feel about the risk v reward.

The administration frowned upon chants about lynchings? Imagine that.

At LSSU, if there are more than 5 people in the line for concessions, there’s a backup on the concourse!

For sure! The Taffy definitely wasn’t designed well when it comes to the concourses. Even more reason to reduce the number of people waiting in the beer line!

It doesn't change the fact that someone can go in the line, buy a beer, and give it to a minor. They can do exactly that whether they buy 1 beer, 2 beers, or 20 beers. This is all I am trying to say.

I don't have any issues with the cheers personally but I can tell you a number of well heeled alumni have complained. I'm ok with most of it, and I miss a lot of it when I go, it's part of being in college. But I had a bad experience at Wisconsin. As long as it's not that bad, i'm ok with whatever.

I miss the "...Counterstrike and Porn..." chant. Do they still allow the "O-R-G-Y" chant?
