Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

It was not during a stoppage of play. It was for over 30 minutes before the game. They forced people to climb over seats to get to their seats. Talk about common courtesy, they were the ones that lacked common courtesy. They wouldn't even move when one asked politely to "excuse me." You can also learn from common courtesy as well. GO BGSU! Beat the Huskies.

How am not being courteous? You're the one that is being a ***** in another team's thread.

Once again, thanks for your contribution...obviously there is something we can all do now about the horrible things some people wearing black and gold did you and your fellow falcons back in January/February. Now leave unless you want to talk hockey because there is nothing I can do about someone being stupid and we here have no idea who was at fault, let alone who it was or if they were actually MTU hockey fans...

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

They were Tech fans dressed in Tech hockey gear. I commented again since I was jumped on rudely.

I will be glad to talk hockey. I have followed BG Hockey for 38 years and have viewed the highs and the lows. We are on the slow rise back from the bottom. Hang in their Alabama Huntsville fans. It takes a while to climb back. BG's best player, Ryan Carpenter, missed more than half of the season due to two different injuries. It has been a weird series this year with Tech. BG had the better of the results at Tech and Tech had it in BG. I expect a better effort this time by the Falcons at BG. It should be a close series. Go Falcons!

Some would say the way you jumped in our thread to comment on something that likely none of the posters here is responsible for was also rude?

So a lot has been said about student attendance this season.
The average attendance for students was 697 students with those number skewed heavily towards the first 4 home games including Laurentian, NMU and Michigan State (1020). Those 4 games as well as the season finale vs NMU were the only "sellouts" of the Experience Tech tickets. Over the 10 home games from December vs BSU through February 15 vs UA_, they averaged only 550 students.

Not very good numbers all around...

Not surprised at all. It's been ****ed sad to see how few are up there. The fact they have a bus and can't be bothered blows my mind.

I didn't miss a single home game as a student paying for my own tickets. And it was some terrible hockey.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I still say charge for the tickets. When the tickets are free, the event is essentially being valued as worthless. No wonder the average student doesn't see the point in attending.

Mel needs to enlist the help of the NSA or some premier hackers to put a virus in all the XBOX and PlayStation systems on campus. When the kids can't play an electronic game, maybe they will go to a real one.

Could turn this into a nice discussion about how bad the misfits have become, some of the pictures I saw during the season we rediculous, sitting in section L, half full, and no cheer originality (expirienced this during the Michigan State series)

Lots and lots of research supports your assertion. I hope that this happens. Vibrant student sections are an amazing part of our game.

Not to mention there is no investment ahead of time to help make the final push. If they paid $50 (or whatever) at the beginning of the season for whole season, they are far more likely to actually attend all or most games because they paid that money and can't let it go to waste.

Honestly, I don't know that up-front payment will work. I think that college students are smart enough to not believe in the sunk cost fallacy and/or are lazy and won't go if it doesn't interest them. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit / ascribing to laziness that can be reflected on other things, but ...

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Can Tech get real hot for a playoff run.

First things first, this is going to be a battle. BG has been a very good playoff team the last years of the CCHA.

However a better alternative than Alaska.

The games against Bemidji were by far the best I have seen BG play in a long time. If both teams show up to play it's going to be one heck of a battle.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

The team practiced in Ann Arbor yesterday on the USNTDP's ice.

I'd be curious to see how many travelled with the team this weekend. With spring break the whole team could go. It would make sense to bring more than the regular 22, especially if it goes 3 games this weekend.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I'd certainly think you'd bring everybody who is physically fit, especially with the possibility of 3 games. I'd not risk playing with a short bench sat and/or sun just to save a few bucks on hotel. Hell, I'd even bring the #3 goalie.

I definitely agree with pdt1081. BG's play last weekend was the strongest six consecutive periods we've played all year. Our problem has been consistency of effort and execution. When we play all three periods, I believe we can play with ANYBODY. But, when we take a team nap for half a period, we can get beat by ANYBODY...(can you say Huntsville).

We are expecting to see a real fine series between two team that are quite different, but pretty evenly matched...and there won't be any surprises, they ought to know each other pretty well by now.

BG's keys:
Control the puck, make Tech spend their energy defending their own zone. We DONT want a weekend of end-to-end rushes.
Stay out of the box.
Take advantage of power play opportunities.
Play all three periods each night.

Mister Obvious has spoken.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

The last time we played them, BG was really pushing it physically. Coach Bergeron referred to it in his press conference, that he hoped they could play in control, but if they go out and run at everyone like they did, that might be hard.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

seems odd to me that Tech was snubbed for all-WCHA first, second, and even third teams. What's up with that? Hanna has better stats than every D in the league, and Pietila and Kero were ignored completely. Sturos and his 20 points didn't even make the rookie team. I'm assuming these are media awards, or did Mel miss a meeting?
