Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Sounds like Davis may have been injured this week. I'm not feeling confident about these early non-conference series now, with only six defensemen available, three of them freshmen, and considering Stebner-Sweeney's struggles last weekend, these early outings could be rocky.

Losing the depth is bad, but I don't think I have any more confidence in Jimmy Davis as I do in the 3 freshmen. Watson should be a rock defensively. I'm not worried about Stebner-Sweeney, I think they'll get their feet under them. That is what the exhibitions are for.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Yeah, but given the current track record, what are the odds we lose a fourth d-man in the next six weeks?

Will Davis be out that long? Or are you going by the timeline for Sova or Fillion or ???? (I can't even remember who the 3rd one injured would be, **** work is frying my brain)

Agreed. If the concern is the whine that "Western teams won't travel!" (Well, you know, except for those conference trips where we cover more miles in one weekend than Mass and NY teams do all year), keep it to non-conf games. Otherwise, I'm afraid this just turns it to a bootstrapping system that helps the HE, B6, and NCHC schools (which make up 11 of the top 14 spots in the first poll) stay at the top of the standings by playing each other.

Polls don't matter. Take a look at last season's opening USA Today poll vs final PWR.
1 Minnesota 4
2 NoDak 10
3 BC 8
4 Miami 4
5 Cornell 28
7 Michigan 29
8 Union 6
9 UMass Lowell 2
10 Notre Dame 9
11 BU 20
12 Western Michigan 16
13 tUMD Not Ranked (below .500)
14 Ferris State 27
15 Northern Michigan Not Ranked (below .500)

Of their Top 15, SEVEN were part of the National Tournament. A better set of rankings could have been made with coin flips. The Polls don't influence the selection, and all the little subscript numbers do is inglate the egos of the schools who feel inferior without it (ie: the basketball and football schools).

Only "poll" that matters is the PWR, and I'd argue that it's more accurate than the USA Today poll even this early in the season.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

So who is traveling as the spare D

Holmberg
Hietila
Anderson

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

3rd line
Gould or Vallis

4th line
Neville or Sturos

Do either if these alternates travel as spare D

Do we know if Davis is injured or made the trip?

Here are the Gazette's articles from yesterday on the team:

And an article on how some locals are playing, anyone have a feel if Devin Kero is a D1 prospect?

If he keeps doing that we'll in BCHL he probably is a d1 prospect but
I doubt he goes to MTU unless he's a walk-on for a year or 2. We already have 3 goalies with 3+ years left at Tech and Redmond is scheduled to come in during Copley and Phillips senior year to make 4. Kero is 19 and would have to join by 2015-16 to play.

That lines up with my thinking too. I don't know how many drafted playersmake it to their 4th year of college, so maybe Jamie is gone after 3 and we are still only 3 goalies when Redmond gets here.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

I think Pietila will be a major contributor this year. Much more than we all think. I think last year, world juniors took a lot out of him and I think this year will be much different. It's going to be very interesting to watch.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

That would be awesome if Blake stepped up his game this year, hopefully the move to center goes okay. All my hope rests on the goalies, more consitency this year would be huge.

We made it into the Notre Dame TV announcement today. Our Friday game at Notre Dame is one of the games that'll be streamed on NBC Sports.

Looks like tonight's game will be included in the WCHA TV package.

UMD uses America One too, I guess they'll honor the subscription and allow the videao feed.

Thanks for posting, I was just planning on not watching tonight, now I'll be tuned in!
