Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

So apparently the NMU/MTU series will resemble NYR/BOS. NMU unveiled their new home jerseys and they're very Ranger-esque.

Haven't Northern's jerseys always looked like the Rangers?

So, remind me, who's all going to the games at Yost and which night(s)? Just trying to get our poop in a group.

Where are Mr. & Mrs. melmac and the future Tech grad seated? ;)

Close game. Too many penalties! Brutally quick whistle too on the non goal.

Interesting 1st intermission interview with Dirk and Dave Shyiak, now a Maple Leafs scout, thought the realingment was good for exposure with Big Ten hockey, but bad with the breakup of WCHA, and thinks some schools will want back into the WCHA ina few years

Mel's postgame interview:
We came ready to play tonight, especially 1st half of 1st period until specialty teams came into play
Maturity for ND came through towards end of 3rd, dug too many holes
Gutsy effort, hats of to Pheonix, we'll win some games playing like this
Freshmen struggled a little more this game, playing a top 4 team in country, 3 freshmen defensemen and Walker played well, we started over handling the puck, need to be more simple
It's a tough building, that's why we scheduled it, see where we're at, liked our compete level, say wahat you want abotu refs, left the kids play
Day off will help after all PK/PP, some guys played a lot, we're resilient, we can play with them,
that was a goal, tired of calls like that, puck is net, never should've blown whistle, have to move on
Tough team SH, we gave too many chances on PK, too passive, we'll get some SHG though, can do better on PK
Goaltending, leaning towards Jamie Sunday, but we'll talk about it, Pheonix played well but saw a lot of pucks
Tell fans, be proud ofthis team, came into this buildign against a tough team, a lot of good things going on with this team, saw a lot of really good thigns with our team, this'll help us for WCHA,
We don't have Sova, Fillion, D. Johnstone, gutsy effort by these guys
What was ref conversation? He blew whistle when we were celebrating, but said he couldn't tell on video and watching clock when he blew whistle, ref should just watch puck on replay, never going to be happy with refs, can't control, refs not a real good job tonight, think Notre Dame would say same

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

No one's coming back to the WCHA if the NCHC produces enough revenue for every member (including the bottom 2-3 finishers, like the old WCHA). If it's not, then maybe we're having that discussion about five years from now.

I also felt penalties were our undoing, but the youth showed too. Hopefully this experience will pay dividends in the next couple of years with our underclassmen.

To lose 3-2 is a solid effort against this ND team, but I'm still concerned about the lack of shots on goal, even though I know the Irish are a great defensive team. At least the PP finally clicked.

Ah well, I'm going down to South Bend on Sunday afternoon, I guess I'll see where we're at in-person.

Haven't gotten tickets, yet. We need to figure out if we're going both nights and who will be around on which nights so we can show off the baby. :)

I'm looking into it. Check your rep. :)

Are the boys going to watch the SC game? I have seen the school give tickets to the visiting team on game weekends, but I bet that SC is a hot, hot ticket.

At what point in the game was the non-goal? I didn't watch or listen, only followed on CHN.

it was shortly after (maybe 10-20 seconds) Notre Dame scored their 2nd goal. bad call. that was a goal. hopefully they can get the split with a win on Sunday. beautiful venue. great place to watch a hockey game.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Notre Dame is a puck possession team and they did that last night. Also they try to draw penalties and they were able to do that too. Letting them have the puck so much makes it tough to win, especially in the third. I'd sure like to see our guys drawing some of them into the box and forcing them to react to us for a change.

According to Mel, they had the option to go, but decided not to.

At least they didn't go this route to copy them:

Ha! Now that would be bad.

By this point, I was hoping everyone involved with MTU Hockey was beyond looking for moral victories. There are none. Play smart, disciplined hockey and come out with the W. Nothing else is acceptable. Until the entire vibe around the team reflects that reality, I fear not much has changed. Tantalizing upsets followed by hard-to-explain losses. How can this team be a whisker away from turning the corner, year after year?? Drives me friggin' crazy!

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

When we get back MacInnes or into the WCHA conference schedule expectations will change but this NC schedule is brutal. We all want the team to win but to expect a result at Notre Dam is kinda crazy. The sad part for me in both losses this year is the team fault back to tie the game but allowed a "late" goal to lose. You can't do that.

Re: Michigan Tech 2013-2014: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Realignment

Let's go Huskies!!!!

I look at this completely differently. As a fan there is very little I can do to influence how well the team plays. I can give vocal support, which I view as more productive than a lot of criticism, and I can donate. That's what I do. I hate losing and I hate losing a lot, but at the same time, this is not 1975 any more. College hockey has changed quite a bit.

I am enjoying having competitive hockey but I agree there are no moral victories. We need to finish as I was hoping for Tech to go 5-3-2 in the first 10.
Go get em tomorrow and get a W.
