Apparently Chicago has taught John Scott to be like SEARS. A softer side:

Freaking classic! That is getting added to my favorites list!

Here is the commercial that lead to the one above:

In happier news, David Johnstone has joined the Johnson's Jerseys team. Nice backstory on this jersey as well. You can see where the captain's "C" was formerly on the jersey. David wasn't a captain. That was stripped off the jersey the previous year when the previous captain was thrown off the team for "holding" (and I don't mean the kind that gets you a two minute penalty.)

Tyler Heinonen has not been in the lineup for Muskegon in the USHL for nearly a month. Does anyone know whether he is injured, traded or is it a coaches choice?

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Just a heads up to my fellow Tech alumni, I’m putting a few jerseys up for sale from Huskies who went pro. I am selling these because I have more than one from this player/team. For those of you looking for something a bit unique regarding Tech's hockey program check out the offering. If you have an interest, just shoot me a line. I would ALWAYS consider a Tech game worn jersey in trade as well.

Happy New Year,
Ryan J

$195 Chris Conner – Dallas Stars – 2006-07 -- Likely from training camp his first season. The spelling of his name was corrected from “ConnOr” to “ConnEr”.

$175 This is an unused jersey from DOMENIC Pittis (not Jon). Brand new, never worn still with tags on the sleeve. NHL tagged as serial number 125673 Set 1.

$395 Tim Watters – Los Angeles Kings – 1993-94 – This is from Tim’s final full season in the NHL and has great wear. Team tagged in the hem and I had Tim autograph the jersey behind the cresting when he was the coach of the Huskies.

$150 Andy Sutton – Kentucky Thoroughblades – 1997-98 – This is a warm-up jersey from Andy’s first action in the AHL. He went straight from Tech following the end of their season and signed with the San Jose Sharks. He was assigned to their top development team for the rest of that season before moving up to the Sharks the next year.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

would be good to find a few goals under the tree for the second half. Hard to win scoring 1 per game.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

ok, so I've recalibrated my expectations with the new year. The GLI is history, the NCAA tournament isn't happening this season. There is still a faint hope of a home playoff series, which would require, among other things, sweeps against UAA and UNO at home, making the upcoming UAA series critically important to the home ice goal. Assuming the sweep doesn't happen, there's still a double-digit win total to accomplish, which I think was all we hoped for after last season. Right?
Confirmed on the 5 minutes of the MP show that I heard this morning, scrimmage at the Calumet Colosseum at 5:15 this Saturday, fired up for that.

I can't imagine the Huskies don't make double digit wins. and home ice is still in the mix.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Back from Detroit (a couple days ago now), and Detroit is still as big of a ****hole as I remembered. Burned out buildings, everything boarded up, absolutely dead downtown with the only places where people seem to be the casinos.... I noticed that one of the burned out buildings from last trip had been turned into an empty lot, so I guess that is improvement. And to be clear, I'm not saying that it was unsafe or I thought I was going to get stabbed, just that it looked like I walking through an episode of Life After People on History Channel. The walk to Joe Louis was so pathetic that it was comical, and the arena still has that permanent outhouse smell to it; I can't believe an NHL team plays there, much less a good NHL team, its actually pretty embarassing. With that said, we still found ways to have fun, so it wasn't a bad trip. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the food was incredible, and I didn't lose any money playing blackjack.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Several battles now for the lineup
Who do the fans like to see in the lineup going forward

1 open spot
Defense
Cecere / Brown / Davis or Fillion

Forward 2 spots open

C. Pietila / McCadden / Holmberg
A. Pietila / Lickteig / Reddick

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Tech has too many forwards. I wouldn't be surprised to see some transfers after this year from guys that aren't happy about playing time.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

This concept of having depth is pretty neat for a change, but I think it's time for a few of these guys who have been in and out of the lineup to step it up and earn steadier ice time down the stretch. Of course, the threat of a night in the press box if they have a bad game will still be there. As to who it will be, I don't particularly care, but someone's gotta do it.

Which reminds me - some of us were discussing at the GLI that with the tiny size of this year's senior class, and five (possibly more) players arriving next fall, more cuts might be made at the start of next season.

EDIT: Assuming there are no transfers of course. I hadn't thought about that possibility.

My guess is that there will be some players that won't be invited to "camp."

I must have missed that conversation, of course, I was only around your guys' group for a little bit on Thursday and between games on Friday.
I don't see how they can't cut more guys (or some guys transfer), they can't go on with having so many players sitting out, without the players getting frustrated and mad about not getting ice time. There is a happy medium roster size, that allows for flexibility and injuries, but also allows for adequate playing time for everyone who thinks he deserves it, right now Tech is on the too many players side of that line.

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Now that Mel knows his players he'll probably spell it out for a few of them in March so they have time to consider pursuing other opportunities. I'm sure everyone involved finds that preferable to cuts.
