Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

Michigan Tech picked up another recruit today. Goaltender Jamie Phillips, Powell River-BCHL, currently 1st in GAA (2.14) and 5th in Save % (.917)

Also leads the league with 4 shutouts. Looks like a nice pickup for the future.

Sounds like Pearson is reviving the intrasquad game at the Colleseum in Calumet on Jan 7 prior to the CHS game. One ticket gets you into both games.

That would be the game against Brighton.

Should be a really good game.

Keep an eye on #19 Tommy Kivisto. Poise with the puck and deceptive speed. Looking at him skate he is almost an exact copy of John. He's a little smaller so that might be a strike against him moving up to the next level, but who knows maybe we'll see him in a Tech uniform someday. Also keep an eye on Chet Daavettila, if he is back in the line-up. He has been out for a couple of weeks after taking a knee on knee hit. Again pretty good player, but on the smaller side.

Tech Hockey guide is reporting Minnetonka Defenseman Joe Schuldt has committed to Michigan Tech.

I've stopped going to Heisenber's site just because Tech Hockey Guide has been first lately, good job guys!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Is the team in Detroit? Heard they may be meeting up for GLI today.

It sounds like it from the Mining Gazette today, all except a couple had made it to Detroit on Monday.

Other notes, Chad Pietila could play Friday, Tommy Brown will likely play one time this weekend and Tanner Kero is still questionable for this weekend.

The Huskies are named the Surprise Team over on the Inside College Hockey Mid-season WCHA report. As one who has "lived and died with the Huskies for years", it's nice to see the kind words, however, I'm not wild about the "Wolverines North" moniker:

"The numbers read like some recounting of Old Testament lore when you consider that Michigan Tech has gone more than 30 years since its last trip to a Frozen Four or even winning its own holiday tournament. So you’ll forgive those who have lived and died with the Huskies for years if they get a little giddy over things like being at .500 or better at the break and being in true contention for a home series in the first round of the WCHA playoffs. It’s been a nice combo of familiar faces that are healthy, new faces that are competitive, and a coaching staff that could be nicknamed 'Wolverines North' that has given the Huskies some much-needed feistiness on the ice and on the bench."
