I heard on drivetime this morning where Pete Heinonen will take a roster spot to add some depth. Completely raw, but most observers of high school hockey were rating him higher than his former linemate, Tanner Kero.

I heard on drivetime this morning where Pete Heinonen will take a roster spot to add some depth. Completely raw, but most observers of high school hockey were rating him higher than his former linemate, Tanner Kero.

Interesting, but not surprising. Last year they were pretty desperate for walk-ons, and it looks like this year was going to be more of the same.

No! Coach Russell is an idiot for picking up an unproven freshman straight out of high school!!!! Daavettila was the only player ever that could have made this program a success, and Russell missed him!



Oh, speaking of Daavettilla, I wonder what JSR would say about the coaching staffs of the Flint Generals, Muskegon Lumberjacks and Grand Rapids Griffins, since they all passed on Daavettilla too. I've got nothing against the guy, and I can really respect his persistence, but he's been passed on by a lot of teams in his career, it's not just Russell.

To be fair, at least 2 or 3 of those D-men see most of their playing time as forwards. I don't even know why they list Dobson or Eli as D anymore since they're always playing forward.

Yeah, and it's good to see he finally made his way into pro hockey, but like I said, a lot of teams passed on him, so there has to be something else going on. The smoking thing might explain some of that.

I think putting up big numbers in high school is usually a requirement to be playing D1 hockey...

Especially putting up big numbers in Michigan High School Hockey.

If he did it in Minnesota, playing Edina, Jefferson, HM, BSM, Duluth East, Eden Prairie, Blaine, Tonka...etc. then yeah, he could probably play in the WCHA. But only the very best of the best in MN can make the jump to the WCHA, and most take a couple years to get up to speed.
