Michigan State vs Michigan 1/30 & 2/7: Two Games, Two Weeks, Two Rinks, No Home Games

Let's hope the lack of crowd makes the organizers think a few times more before holding another outdoor game. Let alone one in a neutral spot.

I won't complain about a split, though I do wish we would've brought more than 15 minutes of above average play tonight.

I also hope to never play an outdoor game with conference implications again. Ice was in awful shape after the first five minutes of each period. How a game in Dodger Stadium can have better ice than Soldier Field I'll never know, though someone can probably explain.

**** Dave Brandon for this. He is the one who agreed to give up the home game for that....debacle.

What a joke of an event. 22K people in attendance. LOL! Sure thing. More like 300.

3 games played between these teams, none on a campus. I hate munn, but winning there as opposed to generic neutral site venues puts an extra spring in everyone's step here.

I'd have no complaints if Michigan doesn't play outdoors for another 5-10 years. This outdoor thing has been done to death in ALL of hockey.

Just another way to make a quick $ via selling jerseys. Thankfully we don't have a penny-pinching ******* anymore calling the shots.

Jeez what a debacle. I honestly wonder if they lost money on this event. I'd be shocked to see another Hockey City Classic again.

Somebody did. For 4 teams, what I saw was easily less than the combination of Munn and Yost. No way they made money.

For that matter, I would question the sponsor at what they do for sponsoring such a debacle. I don't think whoever they are I would want to hire.

Please, let the honor of playing outside go to other schools- we've done it more than enough times.

For as many games as you guys have played no wonder you're sick of it. Hopefully this is the end of it.

If I'm not mistaken, for all of the times we've played outside, Minnesota has only done it once, and it was a non conference game.

I seem to recall that they took the games seriously enough to not play a conference game outside, where the conditions can (obviously) impact the game. The games we've had vs. MSU at Spartan Stadium and Michigan Stadium were cool- but beyond that, not so much. I think it's not hard to convince fans to see a game ONCE, especially at your school's most important venue. But more than that?

One kind of dumb assumption of this game was that there were alumni of all the schools in Chicago. While that's certainly true, it's quite likely that the ones who wanted to see Michigan or State outside playing hockey PROBABLY went to see the games in East Lansing and/or Ann Arbor. It's not that much in terms of travel.

Anyway, I hope this is our last outside game for a LONG time.

Outdoor games should be saved for winter breaks where attendance would otherwise be abysmal, and you need some kind of special draw to get fans in since students are all gone. They're too gimmickee for during the school year, especially a game that would have sold out and have a massive TV audience. The whole point of what made an outdoor game special is because it was unique, when now so many teams go outside it's not a big deal.
