Michigan State getting a women's team?

I had the opportunity tonight to converse with Michigan State Athletics Director Alan Haller and I asked him if there's been any thought or discussion on Michigan State getting a women's hockey team. It didn't seem to be anything they're currently looking at but it's because it's mainly a money issues. I mentioned well at least you wouldn't have to build a new arena. I also said with a grin said aren't you getting tired of seeing Ohio State's women's team win all those titles? He laughed and said that might eventually be a motivating factor. Lol! But he also commented positively on their club team.
So this thread isn't really about Michigan State getting a women's hockey team as it is why they aren't - they just don't want to spend the bucks!

Everything is driven by what to do with the crumbs that are over from the football nuclear arms race. Wisconsin is lucky they built their rink when they did. The current AD would have them playing in some highschool rink in town in an adjoining county to Dane county where Madison is.

I bit my tongue and didn't play Captain Obvious and point out to Mr.Haller if they didn't give Mell Tucker a 95 million contracts maybe they could afford a women's team? 🤔

As a Michigan resident, I think Michigan and Michigan State both get enough positive public relations out of having a women’s club team that they don’t feel the need to ice a varsity team. A varsity team just wouldn’t move the meter with average sports fans more than a club team.

My family and my wife are from Michigan and I've been to many a game at both Yost & Munn and I respectfully disagree, I feel women's teams at both schools would do well given the rabid fan base their men's teams enjoy. At this point I think it's inevitable that UM will be getting one and an announcement will be made withing a year. I'll be meeting next month with the head coach of one of Michigan's women's team and might get insight from her as she's knowledgeable of what goes on there involving all womens sports at the university.

So both Michigan and Michigan State AD's speak favorably about their club teams. They aren't going to say a university backed program is unfavorable. Just because one gender version of a sport draws well doesn't equate that the opposite will do the same. Do both universities women's basketball have similar attendance to the men's teams? My opinion is these schools aren't adding women's hockey anytime soon. It would be nice if they would but given the current situation in the NCAA I don't see it happening.

From what MSU's AD told me at the moment women's hockey is not currently on the table there but according to the news it is moving forward at UM. If you didn't see the story on the other thread I started I'm posting it here too.
