Michigan State 2024-25

Well, it doesn’t get much better going into the holiday break. We’re in a golden era right now so let’s enjoy it.

Yes indeedly!

That's an Olympic-sized statement MSU made by getting 5 of 6 points in that rink!

Someone may have noted this, but MSU picked up their first commitment from CHL in Chase Reid. Big 6'1 16-year-old defens(c)eman who had 60 points in 65 games with Victory Honda last season, and skates for Soo Greyhounds this season.

Minnesota is no longer Olympic-sized…now 4 feet wider than Munn.

also Matt Lahey (D) verbal for next year.

That's a big boy.

I should correct myself and say that Savin Virk is the other current CHL player committed to the Spartans, though he did so while on a BCHL program.

MSU needs two dmen for next year. Matt Lahey is one and the second is Tyson Jugnauth. Tyson spent 1 1/2 years at Wisconsin and is currently playing in the WHL.

Just focusing for a bit on that puny number, the program is in pretty good shape. It seems both of these guys can step right in and contribute, and Lahey's bonus is his size.

First stab at a way-too-early NCAA tournament prediction.

It’s hard to not get too excited to think we can indeed win a national title. I know it’s a crapshoot, but many years, the cream does rise to the top as BC and Denver repeatedly show. I think we may be the best team in the nation, or at least 2nd or 3rd.

I'm kind of in awe of the kind of program this is becoming, and what Nights can get out of his team. It's amazing that MSU can do what they did to the #3 hockey team Friday, and then come back and perform with the same energy the following night - dominating in the faceoff circle, winning battles in the corners, and arguably giving up just 1 goal that wasn't of the quirky variety. They're doing this without Savage, who's probably out for the rest of the season.

Savage is out for the season. I agree, MSU playing well.

I will be in attendance both games this weekend so I need the team to win tonight. I want to go to Detroit tomorrow without the added pressure of any sort of must win. I want to have a nice time.

Red was actually sitting in the row right in front of us during Friday nights game with some of his friends and family. His parents have sat across the isle from us all season. He had a sling on his left arm.. I'm assuming he had some sort of shoulder surgery.

Friday was a disappointment to say the least. Hard to outplay a team that much and loose. But in the end all the penalties cost MSU and UofM's goalie played well. Only difference in Saturday was a couple more went in and they took less penalties..

In my mind it is BC and MSU then a pretty decent gap between the rest of the field this year. We will see if that translates in the NCAA tournament or not. When are they going to make at least the first two rounds a best of 3??

Tough results for senior weekend. I don’t think we played poorly at all, especially tonight. PSU played gritty, opportunistic and rode a hot goalie. We hit a bunch of pipes all weekend and that’s just the breaks, sometimes. We’ll be alright.

I have plenty of thoughts regarding the senior night ceremony. I swear that many years ago, it was great. They’d come out with their family, have a nice list of career accomplishments read off and would get a full, spotlight lap around the ice for applause. They’ve done numerous editions in the last decade or more and it always feels more half assed, or rushed in some way. Tonight felt pretty sloppy. I liked the intro video. The huge line of alumni probably seemed like a good idea on paper. And then what, a quarter lap before the next player starts? That always felt like the most special part and it’s barely a thing now. And why not play Shadows at center ice before they kiss the logo? No feel for vibes. The team also seemed to not really know what to do at any point.

Bah, maybe I’m just a complainer.

I think the reason for the shortened ceremony was that visiting teams were complaining that the length of the ceremony (Usually pregame) was/is too long! this went back to The CCHA days (as well as BIG).

last time I went was 2020 and it was post game so visiting team (Ohio St. that night) should not of had a beef!........

Shame if what you're saying is true because MSU always sent the seniors off first class!

This was post game as well and it didn’t seem short, just kinda slapdash. I’m sure most people liked it fine. I’m just a sucker for proper pageantry.

Glad to see we're back in control of our destiny thanks to events in Happy Valley, but I'm starting to wonder if I really want to see PSU in the B1G semi?

Another BIG regular season 1st place finish. Oh how far this team/program has come since 2022... Hopefully Nightingale is the next Ron Mason/Tom Izzo of MSU.
