Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Going to wear the shirt to THE football game next year?

IIRC, one of the main PSU'ers got the shaft from their athletic program. I don't know any of the details except seeing one thread about one reference about it. Other than him.... So while you are in Happy Valley, you need to pass USCHO cards around. Maybe some of them will come by.

I think he was their radio guy for a decade plus, and then did their games last season. Then this year they decided they needed to revamp because they were joining Big Ten play. I don't blame him for losing interest.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Okay, I'll chime in for Hockey Valley. Really looking forward to this weekend - there was already a little bit of heat between the "Children of Yost" and "The Roar Zone" this week on Twitter. Speaking with someone who has been to more than a few games at Yost, it sounds like our student section has a good start, but a long way to go.

Pretty much spot on what some of the other posters said here. We have some pretty big guys on the team, but that has gotten us into trouble this season with penalties. It sounds cliche, but if we do play a full 60 minutes, we can overcome the talent deficit and hang in there.

If you are looking for a place to eat, I would recommend Herwig's Austrian Bistro (on College Ave Downtown) unless you are a vegetarian (there motto is "Where Bacon is a Herb").

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Penn State's talent is between the pipe's, IMHO. Otherwise, a core group of guys that work really hard and make you earn every inch of ice.

Edit:

PSU is on an 8 game losing string and have played in 7 (1) loss games (5 at home) and (2) of their (4) wins have been by 1 goal- both vs. Robert Morris.

I also think that OSU fan should keep in mind that this past weekend's games were in Columbus. PSU is 1-8-0 on the road, but a much better team at home.

I'm still here.....just don't go there.

Good to see you are still here.

First game ever between the two schools is done. Michigan seemed to carry the scoring from osu last week, but Penn State did put the puck on the net and in the goal. Tighten up the d play and they will be a lot closer games, we got a little uncomfortable last night when they tied the game at 2.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

First off, congrats to Coach Berenson on moving into fourth on the all-time win list.

Second, I think last night was a bit of a gut punch for us. Thought we played a little better deep in the D-zone, but couldn't get the puck out once we got it past the faceoff dots - too much energy used just to get it out of the zone. Liked the fight to get the game back to level, but credit to Michigan for taking any momentum right back.

Hoping today turns out a bit different :)

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

MGoBlueHockey gave MSU and OSU fans a lot of crap last season about losing to Penn State. So I would just like to say thank you for giving the Nittany Lions their first conference win.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Congrats on Penn State on their first conference win! Makes me feel a little less bad about the Gophers losing.

A not so happy +1. I really wish we played better, but the fact that our offense is so hot and cold plus the little tidbit that Penn State could score.. well... you know.

Hard for us fans to take, could have made some serious ground on Minnesota this weekend, instead let Wisconsin take 2nd place back. Going to be a long season.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

That game still didn't warrant a thread...

Dude, a little humility goes a long way. Every weekend game DESERVES a thread. It's a matter of starting one. Michigan fans have not started any for no good reasons, as far as I'm concerned. It's time we did.

The fact that Penn State beat us reminds us that these are all talented players, and all should get some kind of recognition. UNO beat us too, early in thier being a D1 team.

Just for you, I think I'll make sure a thread for the rest of the season starts. Especially the weekends that I can't see the games for.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

So much for my prediction of a Michigan sweep. Makes me a little more nervous about us finishing regular season in their barn.

Re: Michigan @ Penn State, an actual game thread

Per the radio call of the game, apparently a PSU student newspaper said something during the week like "PSU has played two of the top programs in the nation with storied histories (Minn & BC). Now they will face the richest."

Nice to see the respect and recognizing.

I had a very very worried feeling going into the series. That the players were going to see PSU's record and take a night off. Welp, I think the 7 goals on Friday night inflated their egos and they came out thinking it was going to be another 1-2, 3-4-5 game for the offense. Nagelvoort was off even on Friday night. He was pretty responsible for 2 of the 3 goals.

However, all is not lost. Michigan can still take first place with a sweep next weekend (thanks UW). This series was all about how the Michigan team would get up for it. I think they won't even problems getting up for the gophers knowing what they can do.

Congrats on your win, PSU. But you'll be lucky to be within 4 goals of Michigan at Yost in two weeks.

I could also do that and fall back on the *** whippings my team dealt yours. :p

I don't give buckeye fans crap. Go in the threads and look at my posts. There's no use for it. They are a rival only in school name. I want them to win when they aren't playing Michigan.

The hockey team clearly dropped this one to mimic the basketball team last year. Lose to a winless PSU team and go to the Final (Frozen) Four. Don't you see?
