Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

I'd be pretty happy to miraculously have the driver's seat to the first B1G title. Rodents dropping games to Michigan (plus the badgers learning how to win on the road) puts us in that driver's seat.

Can't be in the drivers seat with a loss to OSU....

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

So true. Same thing about having a loss to PSU like only one team out there has. :D

I do believe that both spasrty and bucky lost to them last year...

That being said I'm ashamed of last Saturday.

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Solid win tonight, we came out hard and dominated the 1st, the 2nd was back and forth, the Wolverines came out strong in the 3rd but we hung on to win.

Tomorrow should be fun.

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Kind of a strange game tonight. Both teams looked great at times, and at times really sloppy. Sometimes from shift to shift.
After the 1st period I was asking myself how MN was only up 1-0, and with about 8 minutes to go I was asking myself how MI wasn't winning.
It really looked like a couple very skilled, young teams out there. Speaking of which, how about that freshman class tonight? 4g's from 4 different freshmen.

A pretty stark contrast to last weekend. MI has a hell of a lot more going on offensively than WI, but aren't as disciplined and have a poorer goaltender.

I wish the Gopher PP wasn't so manic. They could have put this game away early with all the penalties the Wolverines took. Side note, how refreshing to see a coach with maturity on the opposing bench. I can't imagine the stink rising from the bench of some other Big 10 program's bench had they taken the first 5 penalties in a game.

I have a feeling tomorrow night is going to be pretty **** intense. MI really turned it up as the game wore on tonight, and the tempers were obviously rising as well.

The first was all Minnesota. The first half of the second was as well. Then things slowly started to turn Michigan's way. The second ended up a wash because of it. Wolverines came out hard in the third, but then something peculiar happened. At about the 10 minute mark both teams seemed to shut down and just skate around aimlessly. A real boring few minutes ensued, then Guertler scored. Michigan understandably went bananas after that, but the D tightened up and Wilcox finished it off.

Fun game to watch. I've been looking forward to it for four months, and it was worth it. These games are gonna get ugly within a year or two.

I dont remember did they lose 4- NOTHING against them as well? Guess that means your on a level playing field with your "rival" and the "team everyone thinks is your rival in hockey but isn't." I think the ScUM fans have stressed that enough.

Yup. The one really sloppy goal was not cool for us (great heads up play to force it), but the game was pretty much what I expected. Lots of ebb and flow, and momentum. One could call Racine a weak goalie, but he made some really strong saves, too- I would put more of the pressure on the questionable D we've had for a few years now. On our other end, good shooting reall prevented a lot of good chances from being that dangerous.

I'm not sure if this series will get that chippy- the teams are too fast and flowing to start some of the crap that makes players really mad- hooking, holding, hacking, etc- that tries to slow fast teams down. I personally see this transforming into the rivalry that we had with Lake State in the early 90's- when they were on the top of the heap. Lots of hard play, lots of effort, etc (and hopefully a lot of speed)- hard hitting, but more "repsect" than taking it personally. That was one of my favorite teams to play at the time.

Oh, well- entertainment factor was high, result was low.

At least we skipped this series last year- that would not have been a great game to watch. This was really good.

As much as the world would end, who would be the best 4th team between BC, Minny, and Mich for that kind of play? That would be seriously fun to watch. At least for me.

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Question for those who were there- the TV made the fans seem quiet. Was that typical? Or just a ton of nervous energy for a captivating game where it seemed as if a two goal lead may not hold up?

Nothing wrong with that- just trying to get a feel for your fans when on TV. I know it's loud when Wisconsin and North Dakota are in town (when I've seen that).

Re: Michigan @ Minnesota, Feb 14 & 15

Sooo, that Compher kid is pretty good, eh?

Man, what a couple of freshmen classes going in this series. I had to watch on TV last night as my kid took a buddy to the game, but I'll be there tonight though not sure of my seat mate yet. Looking forward to it.

We have seen some really good teams at Yost this season besides BC: UML, Ferris to name two. BU was a tough team to play against, but not quite as talented as some other teams Michigan has played. Same with UNH.

I don't think those teams fit the "up and down" fast skating style you mean, but they are good teams.

UNO comes to mind, but only for their speed and offense. Defensively they are deficient.

Wisconsin is a talented team that can wheel.

The Buckeyes are like UNO. Maybe not as much speed.

I haven't seen the ECAC teams- Union, Qu, Cornell etc. or Providence / Northeastern- you can't discount them. I have seen Duluth, Denver and NoDak, and they could work themselves up into being that fourth team-real good size and speed. SCSU, also.

Welp.

It's win tonight or curtains for the B1G Championship hopes barring minnesota ****ting their pants down the stretch.

The fans that have tickets to the U are almost all alumni that buy season tickets up before your average joes have a chance. The result is an atmosphere often made up of parents bringing their younger kids. The place gets loud when hated rivals are in town but you're right in saying that it's often not as loud as it should be with the amount of people that are there

I have a feeling tonight will be a little better. Was a slightly different crowd there last night; I'm blaming V-Day.

But yes, the crowd isn't always as loud or vocal as many of us wish. Really big games/rivals and that changes, but last night was pretty subdued. Like I said, I think it will be better tonight.

I think part of your problem of crowd noise level is that the place is too big.

Less is more. Sometimes I couldn't hear myself think in Yost it was so loud. Notice how I used past tense since the atmosphere isn't the same as it was pre-renovation.

Trolling at 5:49 on a Saturday morning. Wow you MAC trash are dedicated to be totally useless....

You must also consider that the student population is maybe 1/4th of the size as it was. Thank Brandon for that. Sure I like Yost better with the old wooden benches but it was time to renovate.

I wouldn't say curtains but HIGHLY UNLIKELY. I "think" that they'll come out motivated tonight. Do you think that we'll see 'vort in net tonight?
