Michigan Hockey 2019-2020- a big fresh start, again.

Add one more team, and we are all set on that. Even if we add two more teams, just don't let the bottom team in. It would be nice if there were 4 home series this weekend...

Keep hearing rumors, but they never get off the ground.

Yea getting to 8 takes away the byecand fixes all of this.

Re: Michigan Hockey 2019-2020- a big fresh start, again.

I hate this format. The #1 seed is put in a disadvantage by not being allowed a loss. Everyone that plays in round 1 gets a chance to lose once and play again. The semifinal should be 2 of 3 like round 1. Your best team or #1 seed hasvto be treated like the other 6.

While true, does it matter to win both the regular season and the tournament? Maybe to the players, but they still have a chance, they just can't lose.
Big picture wise, in theory, the #1 seed should be high enough in the pairwise to make the NCAA tourney. If they are at a disadvantage for the B1G tourney who cares? That just means a lower seeded team that might not have the pairwise points has a chance to win out and make the NCAA tourney.

Now there's a topic for a debate, should the regular season champs get the automatic conference berth or the tournament champion? Who deserves it more?
I actually touched on this last weekend with some of our former players and the opinion is if you do have a tournament and the winner doesn't get the automatic bid then what's your motivation to play in a conference tournament unless by winning it you go to the NCAA tournament?

Haha the students chanted, "where's our PA?"

I thought the crowd, while small, brought it tonight. Good student support.

And, we should feel fortunate we did not draw ND, SOG with 4 1/2 to go is 25-11 ND, in a 1-0 barburner. and it looks like NOBODY is at Maruicci tonight

Someone still sounds bitter about last year.

Didn't quite get the scoring touch like we want, but the offensive play was pretty effective in keeping the shots down for Minny. Nice win, and we get a home game next weekend! Now we have to wait to see if we are 2nd or 3rd.

We have better sweaters than you. And a better team.

Signed... Honey Badger.

I agree, and assume that everyone else here will agree. More often than not, the regular season champ will get an auto-bid anyway so no harm, no foul. Of course unless every conference has an unranked team win their tournament.

Re: Michigan Hockey 2019-2020- a big fresh start, again.

I'm pretty sure Wisconsin plays OSU (for the second weekend in a row). OSU is the 2nd seed, who plays 7. Minny is the 4th seed and plays ND. Beating MSU would have us either travel to OSU (2-3 seeds) or host Minny/ND (if Wisco beats OSU) the week after.

I think.

I'm not sure but I don't think there is any reseeding.

According to the B1G, they do- https://bigten.org/sports/2019/12/20/2020HKYTournament.aspx PSU plays the lowest remaining seed next week. Unless there a Badger Miracle- it's going to be MN or ND, and we head to Columbus.

All things considered, seeing that Notre Dame is playing the exact same game that dominated us for a weekend, I'm ok with out team going to Columbus.

All of us who have seen what the CCHA could do with numbers all think this tournament format is stupid. Especially since we spread the final 4 over two weekends, instead of having a big celebration of the hockey tournament. Classic playoff hockey means a neutral site.

Re: Michigan Hockey 2019-2020- a big fresh start, again.

Interesting game last night- we looked pretty good and state was terrible in the first, and then it switched over in the 2nd after we scored our 2nd. Thanks to Mann, all of that sustained pressure by state was turned back. Then that stab in the chest with a few seconds to go in the 2nd.

And I can honestly say that given the magnitude of losing a game at this point, I'm actually surprised that Cole didn't pull the goalie with 5 min left. They were already cheating with the D, and that was reasonably effective in keeping pressure on.

Has nothing to do with last year. I aaid this the first year og the format. ND was taken to OT that year. This year Penn state is going to havrme two weeks off between games and if they lose they will then have another two weeks off before the NCAA. So 1 game in a month is not good.

Re: Michigan Hockey 2019-2020- a big fresh start, again.

That was fun! Amazing to see Strauss get a shutout for the weekend!!!

Thanks to OSU winning, we head down there next weekend.

That was a lot of fun. Both nights, I had MSU students in my group, they never got to cheer once, The ENG to end it was very fun tonight.

So who's coming down here next weekend for the game?
We have to play downtown at 5:30 Sunday in Nationwide Arena, the Jackets barn like we did before with you because hosting high school tournaments for money is more important somehow than OSU's own team!

So much for the theory that the B1G can't rent an NHL rink.... (as brought up on the B1G tournament thread)

We will not be there....

I know you mentioned to me up at Yost you typically don't come down here for the games, sorry to hear you still won't make it. Would have gladly made you the one to buy a beer for this time.
As far as NHL rinks it's a bit complicated here. Ohio State back in 2011 entered into a deal to manage Nationwide Arena in a partnership known as Columbus Arena Management so it gives Ohio State access to the NHL rink where other schools may not.
Even so it's going to cost more than it will bring in with our attendance on our home ice this weekend being only a bit over 1600 & 2600 respectively.
Unless they do a LOT better than that in attendance those numbers probably wouldn't even cover the electric bill to turn on the lights for the game!

What about you WT, will you and the parasite make it down?
