Miami Hosts University of New Hampshier Oct. 8th-9th.

Re: Miami Hosts University of New Hampshier Oct. 8th-9th.

Granite Staters comin for the games.... be sure to pick up some Bagel and Deli uptown. As well as Steinkeller's, Mac n Joes is a good place to get some brews and wings after the game without too much congestion. If you are able to find the place. ;)

Seek out the bright lights in the alley!

Re: Miami Hosts University of New Hampshier Oct. 8th-9th.

I'm heading down with my dad and we're excited for a great weekend of hockey and to see what looks like a great rink. All of the UNH family tickets are being used, so there should be a decent UNH section. My tickets (bought through UNH) are also SRO, but I assume we'll all just cram into the UNH section. Do any Miami fans know if the away fan section is seats or benches?

Seats in the corner AWAY from the students and band. You'll see your guys attack twice. Alas, your goaltender(s) will not be so fortunate. :)

I second Bagel and Deli. So good and plus tons of choices.

Marcum Conference center is actually not even off campus it is on the North End of campus which is about as far away as from the rink as possible but still only a 15 minute walk.

As for bars I would say the best is Steinkeller. Pretty large selection of some great foreign beers.

As for golf, I think the closest course is at the state park Hueston Woods which is pretty close to campus. Here is a description from their website

"Hueston Woods Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship course with four sets of tees ranging from 5251 to 7044 yards. It has been laid upon a generous 260 acres of land and has over 30 sand traps as well as unique water holes. Bent grass tees and greens accompanied by Kentucky bluegrass and rye blended fairways create ideal playing surfaces. Prominent golf course architect Jack Kidwell designed our course. It opened for play in 1969."

Hope you guys have a safe trip should be some great hockey.

I'll be out there with my friend Tom. I know of a few other people, plus the parents of some of the players who will make the trek.

We're staying at the Marcum Inn, which I'm told is right next to the campus. I have a friend whose daughter graduated from Miami three years ago and he has stayed there several times. He recommended it highly

Two questions. Any good brew pubs within walking distance? Second, I see the weather is supposed to be in the high 70's, so what's the golf like? Not bringing my clubs, but might bring the accessories, rent a set, and play or 9 or 18. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Looking forward to walking around the campus and seeing the new rink. Miami has to be smarting after their losses in the FF the last two years. it's a great program and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to Coach Blasi last year at UNH. I'm not sure what to expect from UNH. They have a veteran defensive corps and return some productive forwards, but are going with a goalie, DiGirolamo, who has played only a handful of games in his two years at UNH. No question these Miami games will be a big test. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into the debacle that we had last October at Wisconsin.

There is also Oxford country club, Indian Ridge, and Liberty Country Club. Indian Ridge is in decent shape and is a little bit of a challenge. Their club house got burnt down due to arson last year but course is still ok and is about 5 minutes down 27 south of campus. Liberty Country Club is about 20-25 minutes away just across the border in Indiana. Pretty challenging course and in solid shape.

Miami lost an interesting combination of scoring and grit with the graduation of Jarod Palmer and the early departure of last year's captain, Tommy Wingels. I'll be interested to see who picks up the leadership mantle and ups their game to add more scoring. Palmer was also a terrific penalty killer. He and Miele were dominant together doing that over the past couple seasons. Wonder who will be paired with Andy with those duties?

Seems that both teams have some holes to fill up front, but I like Miami's defense and goaltending that have been unchanged for the past two seasons. They return everyone back there from last season and if we didn't lead the nation in defense, we were pretty close. Will be difficult to score goals against Miami if these players continue to improve and play Rico's system.

My heart says Miami sweeps, but my head isn't so sure. We are a very fast starting team traditionally, so we'll see if that holds.

One thing's certain, Miami will know where they are very early after this series then next week's at St. Cloud.

Well Miami will be facing more of an uphill battle than people think. Don't think there is anyway Miami sweeps.

They may be far away from the student section but they won't be able to hide from them lol :D . Just be prepared they tend to be a little vulgar at times, but its funny...:D

Re: Miami Hosts University of New Hampshier Oct. 8th-9th.

Then again, Knapp played first in the exhibition, so maybe that was tipping the hand as to who has the edge coming out of camp.

I thought the same thing when Connor took the team out of the tunnel on Sunday, but it probably doesn't matter. One of them would have had to make some amazing progress or had a truly terrible camp for Rico to name a "true starter". 1 and 1a it shall be.

Maybe it just needs to be Friday, grrrrrrr.

Re: Miami Hosts University of New Hampshier Oct. 8th-9th.

I remember Rico saying before that they went with Reich on Fridays because of how young Knapp was and he had an opportunity to watch his competition first hand before he played them. Knapp was the better down the stretch of the two last year, until the debacle at Ford Field where the entire team looked awful. Either way its a given that it'll be another year of the tandem, and looks like more to come with the two recent commits. It works for us, so keep it comin.

No insight because I haven't asked, but if you remember it was zatkoff and effinger for two years rotating and both put up big numbers. Third year was all zatkoff. Knapp had more upside and was touted more coming into college not to mention the NHL club who has his rights may want to see more of him. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Knapp's job, I think he is poised to have a big year after what he went through this summer.
