Merrimack Offseason Thread - Summer 2013 - Hampus on Campus

Re: Merrimack Offseason Thread - Summer 2013 - Hampus on Campus

PC transfer and Lashyn should both get a chance to immediately jump into lineup on D.

Good to hear, although is that competing with each other, or is Mansfield moving back to F? Just throwing the D down below to show (pairings mostly arbitrary) what we might have.

Heywood- McCarthy
Ellis- Kolomatis
Mansfield (?)- Lashyn/Wyszomirski/Cronin/Robertson

I think you'll see Lashyn paired with Heywood, then Ellis and Kolomatis then Mansfield-Wyszomirski/McCarthy with Cronin and Robertson as depth guys.

...is Mansfield moving back to F?

I have to think they keep Mansfield on D, there are plenty of other big forwards to fill out the roster, and his strength is best utilized in the corners by stapling opposing forwards to the boards. Dennehy has been recruiting a lot of 6'2"+ forwards recently (Gould, H. Gustafsson, LeBlanc, Singleton, Hussar, Christie) so Mansfield's physicality can best be used on the back line.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Merrimack's team this year is the 6th tallest (on average) in the nation. Height doesn't win you games, but it adds an extra element to defend - I'm all in favor...

I wish the Holland kid the best of luck. I think it is odd that he left school a week into it, but c'est la vie. I wonder where the kid will play, but it isn't Merrimack so in the end it makes no difference to me. Only 18 days until vs. McGill

My season tickets came in today. See everyone in 12 days. Also Merrimack picked 7th in the coaches poll. Kind of what I expected, go Warriors

Wondering what people's expectations are for this year?

I have Merrimack hosting and winning a first round. I can see the quarterfinals going either way. Mike Collins has another great year and is first team all Hockey East. Marotta and Heyward make second team and Ellis is third team. Sunday is approaching fast and I can't wait to be in the new rink

We'll make the playoffs!

I see the top 3-4 teams in HEA being very tough to get past, but if the scoring clicks there's certainly a shot of getting out of the first round.

Got an email to rent luxury boxes at Lawler, thought that was interesting. Starts at $1,000 for 16 seats, not too bad.

I've heard that the box prices have been raised significantly and that there have been some non-renewals. The season tix have gone up a bunch too. (I'm only doing a Hockey East pack and some other assorted home and road games.) I hope that the school hasn't gotten ahead of itself in terms of their pricing strategy.

$1000 for a game and it includes food, drinks, deserts etc
that is still very cheap

Few years back they were 5k for the season. that's still parking money for a local company that wants to do firm event or employee night out

Well, the regular season begins this weekend and the Warriors meet the Pioneers.
What do you expect from your team this Year?

I'd be happy to fill you in on DU, if I had any idea what to expect:confused:

New Coach
New System
Only 2 seniors return.
No Captains yet.
New Conference
10 freshmen plus wade Bennett who is a junior but has yet to play in the regular season and was thought to be retired after a hip injury last year.
2 injuries suffered in "captain's" practices-both out until at least November and 1 possibly for the year.
Didn't look very impressive against New Brunswick on Sunday. Doremus did score a great breakaway shortie and 1 in the shootout. Power play was a big fail.
Pio D-men have offensive talent--Makowski, LaLeggia (top returning scorer), Zajac, and Butcher.
Offense-Loney, Larraza(injured), Doremus, Jacobson, Tabrum returning. Freshmen--Moore, Marcinew, Janssen and Romig who has to sit for the first 8 games (NCAA suspension--games played in Europe).
How they all fit together--we shall see.

Hey Vizoroo,

Thanks for the quick scouting report. I don't have a whole lot to offer, but will give you a quick reply.

Same Coach
Same System
Only 4 freshman.
I think the same captain?
Same Conference

Strength is in our blue-line and goalie. We return 5 starting defenseman and have two supposedly solid incoming (one is actually a soph. transfer from Providence ) blue-liners. Marotta is most likely the starter in net and played very well for us last yr. Up front we need to diversify our production, as last year saw us rely almost entirely on Mike Collins (had a great yr with 38 pts and 32 in conf.), next best pt total was one of our D-men (Heywood). Need some other guys to step up this year. Possess a lot of size, heard a rumor that we have the tallest team in D-1 this yr, but counter it with some speed guys, Scotti, Myers, Bates and Bahe come to mind. Have a few friends making the trip out there, and know they are looking forward to it.
