Merrimack Offseason thread - preseason rank 10th again? I think not

A friend just pointed out that there's no pre-season thread for the Mack...a little late but better late than never.

Where do you think they'll rank us in the pre season poll this year? 10th again? haha.....A certain Rodney Dangerfield phrase comes to mind :)

I say they get ranked in the pre-season 7th but I think they'll be vying for the number 4 spot and home ice come the end of the season. They were only 2 points (1 win) out of hosting a set of playoff games at Lawlor last year when everyone thought we were going to finish in the basement.

Probably 6 or 7, although I'm pretty sure I'll have them higher.

If I had to guess, I would say they rank us 7th or 8th. A number of HE coaches all mentioned that they had to game plan for MC last year, in particular the strategy where we left an offensive player hovering at the opposing blue line.

A lot of people close to the team feel like it's the most talented team MC has ever had.

I agree with the 6-7 predictions. I think UML, UMA, and PC have 8th,9th, and 10th locked down.

To be fair, that's not a particularly astonishing feat given the parity of Hockey East, however...

This.

That's great but it's really not saying much.

Totally agree with jcarter in saying that 8-10 are locked down by UMA, UML, and PC. Those three teams will be particularly dreadful. After that, I think the middle of the pack is a bit cluttered with UVM, NU, BU, UNH and maybe MC battling for the last two home ice spots. My guess is MC will get a few votes at 5, a few at 7, and a few at 6 and average in to finish 6th in the preseason poll.

Everyone in the league without home ice except for PC was within 4 pts of home ice. It was a crazy year. I wouldn't put too much stock into how close they came to home ice last year.

I'll guess the coaches poll will put them at 6th. I'll bet USCHO will put them at 5th, since they're going to overcompensate for ranking them 10th last year.

So who winds up 7th ?

Dave "genius" Hendrickson will likely put MC near the top since he'll probably put Boston College at # 8 again....:)

Hey, worked out for you last year. I'm hoping he picks UVM 8th this year, but alas pretty sure it's going to be UML.

Someone didn't like the first post so here is attempt #2:

7th, with the Merrimack Women's team finishing 6th.

I think the real preseason poll (the Hockey East coaches poll) will have MC around 6. After BC and maybe Maine, 3-6 are kind of a toss up. BU and UNH will be ranked ahead of MC due to reputation, so that leaves MC and UVM to fight it out for fifth.

Re: Merrimack Offseason thread - preseason rank 10th again? I think not

Biggest HE question for me going into the season is the Maine/UNH goaltending situations.

We all know what Maine brings back. I realize UNH loses Butler, but they still have a pretty good roster coming back.

No idea what I predicted months ago, but I think Maine/UNH will be at 2/3 provided the goaltending holds up.

I'm hesitant to pick MC higher than 6th, but I do think they could finish as high as 4th.
