No season is without "blips". Was losing the lead against BU kinda a let down, absolutely, a "blip" I don't think so.

There were more than enough positives over this half of a season to be very excited and optimistic about. A few "blips" shouldn't get you down. The fact remains we're nationally ranked and 4th in the conference...I did not expect that's where we would be. I believed the team was capable of it (and more) but to be there is unexpected and grounds for optimism.

If you want to focus and dwell on a few "blips" that's fine. And to a certain extent they should be focused on. You learn from your mistakes/problems but dwelling on them is counterproductive.

Seems weird that he says Dacosta is 5th on team in scoring when in fact he is number one. Hard to say it was an old version as he has U Mass lowell player Wetmore at 13, which is what he is as of today. Wetmore had a goal Saturday night and it is included in the article. Dacosta has been higher than listed for some time now.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Ya the stats are WAY off, he's had 7 goals and 9 assists totally 16 points in 15 games...college hockey news is starting to become more and more my go-to option for anything college hockey. I don't understand how you can be a professional sports writer and get that stat wrong...it's far too easy to research.

This guy has been watching HE for over a decade and he is shocked that BC is starting slow... Uh... ok we know this guy is a buffoon but come on. This and the fact that he picked BC 8th in his preseason poll last year really make it difficult to take this guy seriously. Was he seriously believing Cronin's "they could win 40 games this year" baloney?

second only to the guy saying they would break HE single season scoring record... I know Brian Leatch couldnt sleep thinking about it. Was calling Don Shula for coping advice

Compadres, the winter break is just about over.

The two games staring the Warriors in the face are on the road against Army (12/30) and on the road against RIT (1/1).

Merrimack's recent history with Army has been very interesting:

2008: Joe Cannata shuts them out 1-0 on the road in his first collegiate start.
2009: Stephane DaCosta scores 5 goals against Army at home in his second collegiate game.
2010: TBD

Now, these OOC games really mean a lot in the rankings and the tournament prospects down the road and both need to be strong performances by MC. Any thoughts on the prospects of Army and RIT? Strengths and weaknesses?

How so? How exactly do wins against Army and RIT help tournament prospects. I have been told I know nothing about the PWR so please explain this to me...because I don't understand how playing the #40th and #55th helps your tourney bids.

These OOC games are important not because they help our tournament bids, but because if we lose either of them it costs us a bid altogether...

If a team that is ranked under 20 right now loses to a 40 or a 55...I'd say it's sayonara NCAAs...

Not entirely true, admittedly my recollection is from 2 years ago, but the PWR only tabulates teams with RPI's in the top 25, so AHA don't really effect a team's PWR. It's the main flaw in the PWR, in that teams who beat all the weak teams but have middling records against the top 25 are lowballed on their pair-wise ranking.

I agree with that, I thought from your previous post you were saying that the wins would help MC. My apologies.

GoNU, I believe RPI is calaculated for all games, but the PWR comparisons only occur between the top 25, I may be mistaken...but that is my understanding. It would also affect COP, and TUC although I doubt there will be any other AHA teams that are TUC outside of the autobid, and frankly I am not sure the if the autobid gets considered or not.

I probably should've been clearer in my prior post, I blame the storm haha.

But anyways looking further into MC's January home games, the tilts against Maine (1/8) and BU (1/12) will be critical if they want to crack "The Big Four" in March. Reason being that this year MC travels up to Orono for two, where historically they have struggled to win/tie. If they can get any points out of their home game against the Black Bears, it will help in that road series coming up in February.

The obvious importance of the game against BU: they would win the season series with a W at home against the Terriers, meaning another tiebreaker for the Warriors at season's end.

Last year, January was this team's undoing as they struggled for a large chunk of the month, only to turn on the jets in February. We'll see how they do this year with a full month of rest to boot.

I believe that is correct, RPI is for all teams, but PWR is only affected by the top 25. A very odd tabulation though.

Thats not really accurate. PWR is affected by a lot of things including your overall RPI, your record vs. TUC (teams in the top 25 of RPI) your record head to head and your record vs. common opponents.

Nice to pick up 2 road wins. Props to Stollery for the HT; not seeing many d-men doing that! Putting 50 SOG on RIT was a good sign. Goal scoring was a bit hard to come by in some of their recent games. Next 2 games are HUGE as I see the Warriors battling ME and BU for the 3rd/4th home ice berth.

Stollery is starting to show that he can hang with the elites in Hockey East among defensemen...

18 GP David Warsofsky 5G 12A = 17 pts
17 GP Karl Stollery 4G 10A = 14 pts

...just sayin...

Maine, BC and UNH always draw the best. The capacity has been reduced by the chairback seats, but I would assume if you got there early enough, you'd have no problem, but if you didn't get there until 3:45, I would say there could potentially be a problem. Students won't be back also.

Hey there 2012, I would jump on acquiring tickets this week online, according to the Merrimack radio broadcast last night, under 600 tickets remain for the game.

https://www.etix.com/ticket/servlet...and=merrimackathletics&performance_id=1324243

My guess is those will be gone close to gametime, so anything more than one or two seats will be tough to acquire at the ticket counter...
