Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

merrimack didn't have injuries? they missed Da costa for more games than BC has missed kreider and da costa is one of the best players in the country. bigos logs them huge minutes and missed time. every team had injuries.

But that doesnt change that the best coaching "performance" which to me is getting your kids to play above the expectations set for them, then the coty is dennehy hands down.

all a matter of how you interpret the award

BC had more than two injuries, but that's my point here...

Anyway, there's nothing that says COTY is based off of how many spots higher a team finishes than predicted in the preseason. By your logic, York can only win COTY if BC goes undefeated and wins every game 5-0. That doesn't make sense. BC was also picked 1st in 2008-2009 and finished 5th or 6th. The fact BC was picked first and lived up to every expectation is a valid reason why York should win this award. Sometimes living up to lofty expectations is difficult to do. Again, Dennehy was absolutely deserving of this, but so was York.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

I think a lot of posters had them in the 4th-6th range.

This is my point, Merrimack was predicted to be good. They were very competitive last year, which was a surprise, hence the COTY award. This year they had everyone coming back, of course they are going to improve. If they didn't improve and continue the 2010 momentum with their whole team coming back you'd be calling for Dennehy's head. They do improve, like they should, and you want to crown him coach of the year? He did a great job, but clearly you Mack fans are inflating their 2011 success. Great year, but not totally unexpected, in fact par for the course considering their 2010.

Embarrassed itself? Give me a break.

That should read Mcmahon embarrasses himself with homerism. His blog is pure propaganda. He refuses to write when any of the players get suspended for violating team rules and refuses to admit when Bigos goes head hunting. I love Merrimack and appreciate his blog, but I wish he would be a little more reasonable and objective.

who is suspended?

who is suspended?

Over the course of the last two years, there have been several times where players were suspended for a game for violating team rules (minor ones such as drinking, etc.) and instead of just saying so he refuses to give reasons for usual players out of the lineup. And when people suggested Bigos' hit on Nyquist was dirty, he threatens to shut down the blog. If he wants a career in sports journalism, he better learn to call it like it is.

Go back to the Army game and see who the two regulars were who didn't play and I believe one of the BU games last year. Every team is allowed nights they can drink during season. Usually Saturday and Sunday. It was just minor violations, but he isn't a student reporter. I love the work Dennehy has done and thought for sure he would be COTY, but HE didn't embarrass themselves. The COTY winner is the greatest college recruiter and coach of this generation. He's been successful at three places, won four NCAA titles. He certainly isn't some bum the HE coaches just selected.

i guess ill take your word for it. but i know youre talking about bigos in the army game and I read that he sat for a coachs decision. could that be suspension? sure it could i guess

is anyone surprised with other awards? Im not really. my buddy I go to games with thought that dacosta should be on the first conference team but not with those three forwards. Anyone else surprised by only dacosta on 2nd team and collins on rookie team and nothing else?

I was just shocked that Heywood didn't get any award, but the defensemen who did make the cut were deserving, as well. I also think Flanigan or Sheen would have been deserving of the Defensive Forward award, but I cannot argue with the selection of House. I'd also bet my bottom dollar that none of the boys will care about any of the awards being given else where if they come away with hardware this weekend or win a game or two in the NCAAs.

The NCAAs are going to be a tough battle because it looks very unlikely the Warriors get sent to Manchester. Bridgeport is a slim possibility, but more likely the team gets shipped to St. Louis or Green Bay.

heywood. holy geez completely forgot about heywood. but if you look at only offensive #'s I guess then maybe he doesnt make the cut. but they havent always had a goalie and I think you could have put heywood on the rookie team instead of sullivan who had a save% under .900 i believe, right? he was on there because he was basically the only freshman goalie to play.

Sullivan, I believe had a save percentage barely over .900, and was the only freshman goalie to do so. He was far from impressive for most of the year. Let in a lot of softies.

they have run teams without the traditional 3f, 2d, 1g right??? i mean why not just not name a goalie

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

what do you see happening tonight? i think it could be a late night........... have my seats all set in sec 10

UNH and Merrimack have played evenly for past few years - all close games. I'm worried that these two teams are fairly even, but MC held the season series 2-1. I'd say if they played 10 times, it's possible they'd each win 5 times. I've been a Merrimack fan for a very long time and just want this run to last as long as possible. The Warriors have to stay out of the box. It's great to be physical and tough, but stupid and unneccessary is not good. One thing I like is that Cucci, Barton and Da Costa had relatively quiet weekends against Maine. If they bounce back and the third line continues playing well, it could be a sign of good things to come.

I certainly hope Northeastern beats BC because if Merrimack is to beat UNH, I'd rather avoid BC in March. I despise BC more than any other school besides maybe Ohio State, but they are awfully good when it comes to playoff hockey.

A bit of selective quoting on your part. While the posters here generally had them in the 4th-6thrange, the COACHES picked them 7th, despite the fact that they finished 6th last year and had all those returning players. And IIRC, either Hendrickson or Connelly had them 8th!

Just indicating that not "everybody" predicted them to be this good this year.

Look. I'm a long time Merrimack fan. Dennehy is the best thing to happen to this program in a very long time. Things are looking up. Talent is better. That means better recruiting. Coaching is good. Team is good. If I was voting, I'd have voted for Dennehy. Thing is, the league coaches voted for York. It is what it is. York is a hell of a coach. It's not like they picked some bum over Dennehy. I absolutely hate BC, but their hockey program right now is the best in the country and has been since 1998. Look at all the Frozen Fours, all the NCAA Titles, all the HE Tourney Titles, all the guys in the NHL, etc. York has done an extremely good job.

Let's quit whining about it. These awards mean very little in the grand scheme of things. I could rattle off the winner of every Frozen Four year by year dating back to 1988. I know who the good coaches have been over that time, but I couldn't tell you who won the Spencer Penrose each year.
