Mcha 2010-11

Re: Mcha 2010-11

I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to notice that...

Re: Mcha 2010-11

I watched Finlandia agaisnt Elliot Lake last night and I saw a few players stand out but...how good is Elliot Lake?

I believe they are the best team in a somewhat suspect canadian junior league. I know that a number of MCHA teams have pulled kids from their league.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Well, seeing as how Marian went 18-2 in the league last season, and the only team to put a dent in their conference record was you-know-who, I'd say that if there is significant slippage from Adrian, Marian is certainly the team-in-waiting. If Lake Forest ever figures out how to keep the puck out of their own net without the referee fishing it out after a goal, they're going to be there as well. They scored against Adrian just fine, but when you surrender 34 goals in 4 games.........you're just not going to win.

MSOE and Finlandia have been passed by both Adrian and Marian, and Lawrence has at least pulled even over the past two seasons. It's not 2004 anymore. Adrian's entrance and ensuing success has required the rest of the league to make a major adjustment in the quality of hockey that they're putting on the ice. Marian and Lawrence have obviously made that adjustment. The others simply are not there yet.

We've got a whole season to sit back and enjoy without speculation about the next one, and that's exactly what I intend to do this season: enjoy it. I've been very lucky to see what I have seen the past three seasons, and I'm going to enjoy every moment while I can. I'll deal with next year when it gets here. It will get here soon enough.

Some records the last three years:

Finlandia:
09-10 5-17-3 (huge asterisk here due to other issues that we will not discuss here)
08-09 10-13-2
07-08 18-9-2

MSOE
09-10 14-11-2
08-09 15-12-2
07-08 15-13-0

Lawrence
09-10 10-16-2
08-09 16-11-1
07-08 10-14-3

Marian
09-10 20-7-0
08-09 13-12-3
07-08 17-10-1

I would contend that Marian has made the most improvement over the last three years, while Finlandia has regressed, even if you consider the other factors re: last season. MSOE has leveled off at just over .500, while Lawrence has been up and down. To throw Lake Forest's record the last three seasons into the mix is like comparing apples and grapefruit. Concordia and Northland.........no. The season has not yet started. Let's not embarrass anyone quite yet, shall we?

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Can MSOE and MARIAN improve with the pathetic coaches that they have? I don't think so... A pair of whinners...And they will always be a pair of whinners. Always afraid of real competion.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

You mean the Marian coach that was MCHA coach of the year last year (and rightfully so)? Mr. Wise has done very well building the Marian program.

Re: Mcha 2010-11

Marian's N/C schedule this season:
Stout, St. Norbert (perhaps you've heard of them), St. Scholastica, ST. Mary's, Concordia (MN).

Marian's N/C schedule last season:
Eau Claire, Superior, Stevens Point, 2 vs. GAC (an NCAA quarterfinalist last season)

I'd say there's nothing wrong with their NC schedule. They're not ducking anyone.
