Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

I would love to be top 5, but it is really difficult to make the jumps in the standings when you get this high in the country.

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

LOL tell me about it. In our defense we did put 63 shots on goal that game.

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

Quinnipiac is a good team, and lucky. Then again, being good includes capitalizing on good luck. I'm not usually one to whine about the refs, but that was one of the worst-officiated games I've seen in a while.

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

i think everyone is getting too caught up in the polls. Obviously its great to see the team paying well, but the higher QU is ranked, the more motivated the other teams will be to play them. Let's keep flying under the radar, it's been working well for them all season...

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

The call that set-up the tying goal was a huge break for Quinnipiac, but like you said good teams take advantage of their opportunities.

I wouldnt say a 12-1 team is just winning based on luck.

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

Jon,
You said....the officials stinking is way down on the list.

It starts closer to the top.

Bad move to start Meyers. Unless someone can tell me the advantage.

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

I was talking about this game. Skill, luck and some wonky officiating won this one for Q.

If you want to see crazy officiated game look no further than thr RPI - Union game. In the first the reffs gave Union two ticky tacky 5x3 ( U scored on both ) 3 - 0 U after 1. 3 - 1 after 2 and late in the third Union got a goal on the pp quickly followed by a RPI empty netter followed by a RPI power play with 30 seconds left in the game RPI scores with no time on the clock knotting up the game and was given a powerplay 1 minute into OT!!!

Re: Massachusetts @ Quinnipiac 11/28

^Part of me agrees with you.

The other part of me wonders why the refs, who weren't calling anything all night, decided to pull the whistle out with 2 and a half minutes left, and then put them away after. This part of me knows you'd feel screwed if the roles were reversed.

Oh well. On to Friday's game against BC. We get to see how the team rebounds after a tough loss.

Bottom line is that it was a good game between 2 good teams, each of which had a few calls go their way. In the end, while the officiating wasn't stellar, it seemed consistent.

The refs missed and made phantom calls all night for both sides. Watching the game this morning, that interference call late in the 3rd was so blatant it had to be called. And sure, I'd probably be upset if it went the other way.

The only call I remember going UMass's way was the blatent offsides on Ortiz not being called. Of course, that worked out to Quinnipiac's advantage, as they just came down the ice and scored.

I guess it goes to show you Quinnipiac should have won. When they got screwed, they came up the ice and scored. When UMass got screwed, they had an empty net to work with down a man so they could have shot at will without worrying about icing. Yet they didn't capitalize.

I'd love to see these two teams play again this year. I'd like UMass's chances.
