Mankato at St. Cloud

Re: Mankato at St. Cloud

That doesn't surprise me from certain fan bases. Back in 2001 at the final five I had a lady that had to be well into her 60's tell me my team were cheaters and was only beating the Gophers beacause we were a bunch of 25 year old canandians. At the time the average age on both teams was within six months of each other.:D

I have to admit, I was embarrassed for my school that day. I apologized to the girls. The one girl's hands were actually shaking. They said everyone else was good to them though.

I am the same the way. I don't mind good nature ribbing, but way to many fans cross the line.

You wore a Sioux jersey to the Final Five?

The two instances I have been really embarassed of our fans were once against the Gophers, right after tDon was going through all those health concerns, and our student section started chanting "F-Lucia." I was furious and told people around me to have some class. I can't stand Don Lucia as much as anyone, but with all that was going on, I clapped when they announced his name. Then Tony Lucia got into it with Johnny Swanson and I was one of the louder people chanting "F-Lucia" but that was deserved. :D

The other time, there were two UW fans in the student section and they were beating us and were taking a lot of crap. It got so bad a couple fans threw some things at them. I went down and got the attention of one who thought I was trying to start something, but I apologized for the fans and the school. Funny thing was he was a student at SCSU from Wisconsin and said he went to every other home game and wore his St. Cloud stuff and cheered for us. As some of our crappy fans were leaving the game early because we were losing, one of them shoved the kid.

Fortunately, fans like that are only there a couple times a year (UW, UND, MN)... they're too busy getting drunk or desperately hitting on girls to show up for the Mankato series.

As long as its clever. "Husky Women" has to be the stupidest chant I've ever heard. Are our players women? Are our women large? Lamesauce. My favorites are still when UW fans chanted "Cite your sources!" to Bobby. :D

I also like when Gopher fans (can't believe I'm complimenting them for anything) sing the NAU song and end it with "get your degree... set yourself free... St. Cloud State University!" Whenever we hear it there, the SCSU fans I go with and I all sing along. But everything else they do, particularly that really effeminate power play chant, sucks.

I would have to say that UW has the best fans I have encountered. Most of their cheers are quite clever. UW has great traditions. With UW, I also rarely encounter the arrogance that is so common in a couple other WCHA schools.

Ugh, Wisconsin is the worst. Admittedly they create the best atmosphere, but they're drunk, rude and mean. Even the kids are mean and the parents do nothing. Their football fans are the worst, but I've witnessed plenty of boorish hockey fans.

I have been to wisconsin probably a dozen times. The first few tiems at the old Dane and now at the Kohl center and I have never had a big problem. Yes I have ran into a few jerks, but considering how many fans that place holds I don't think it is bad at all.

I am not saying this is you, but I find if you are not a jerk off visting fan yelling and saying stuff you shouldn't be saying, no matter where you go fans are decent. The one exception to taht is Minnesota fans at the final five and that is a whole different story.......

I should clarify that I have never been @ Wisconsin. Any unpleasantness I've experienced or witnessed has been unprovoked with travelling fans at the NHC, DECC, Metrodome, X, or the Lambeau game.

and, yes, I realize that travelling fans are generally worse, and that the vast majority of every fanbase is normal and pleasent.

Re: Mankato at St. Cloud

Back to the Mavs. I am hoping the Huskies keep on a role and pull off a sweep at home. This is something that has been very difficult for us against MSU. At least 3 points would keep them in the hunt for home ice. I think a split could take the Huskies out of the home ice picture with the difficult schedule they face down the stretch.

The Husky's top two lines have been great on their 6 game run. It would be great to get some more 3rd and 4th line production going. It was nice bonus last weekend with Christian finding the score sheet. Hope to see some more.

Back to the Mavs.
I apologize for the tangent...we do need as many points as possible due to our brutal remaining schedule. I think we should see our schedule as an opportunity to get back it the national conversation and prove our pre-season hype wasn't totally overblown.

I agree with you. It might be better to have the tough schedule. If the Huskies can pick up some wins against UNO, UMD, UND, UW, & DU they could become nationally relevant in the PairWise. We'll see if they can rise to the challenge.

Agreed. It all needs to start this weekend with a sweep. The Mavs are a thorn in the Huskies side and they better bring it this weekend or Mankato is going come away with points.

Re: Mankato at St. Cloud

It's my weekend, and the thing I'm looking forward to most is sitting in my room by myself with a couple beers and listening to the hockey game.

Re: Mankato at St. Cloud

I do not like playing Mankato.

Per Hatton's blog, SCSU's lines this evening:

Reid-Roe-Eddy
Festler-LeBlanc-Dowd
Hanowksi-Marvin-Volpei
MacMillan-Christian-Oslund

Big O-Johnson
Gravel-Barta
Zabs-Jensen

Mike Lee in goal.
