Maine vs BU

Re: Maine vs BU

If you cant remember your coach does. He remembers getting swept of our ice... when BU was at the top of their game. ;) Ask him. :)

Re: Maine vs BU

They were the ones that kept us from a perfect season.

While the GWG by Prendergast was a thing of beauty for BU fans, the reality is that BU win, coming back from being down 6-2, included some pretty fluky goals. The tying goal was a double deflection. Three times BU scored two goals in less than two minutes. Definitely a great game for BU fans, but Maine had the last laugh that season. They were a machine. Nothing was scarier than giving Paul Kariya and the rest of that loaded team a Power Play in the last few minutes of a time game.

For those with DirecTV, the game is on Fox College Sports (FCS), which is channel 608, at 7:30.

Maine games are streamed for free. It is decent but not the highest resolution. I suppose you get what you pay for. :D

I just hope for a great game from both sides. Being greedy I want an OT win for the boys in blue. :D

Yes, that BU team might have won it all if not for Maine. Kariya made so many great plays, from his knees even. He is the best I've seen in college hockey.

Thanks for reminding me of how great we had it... ;)

If you look back at the CHODR (precursor to KRACH) that season, Maine, BU, Lake State and Michigan were far and away the best four teams in the nation and that Frozen Four was superb. It was also the only Frozen Four to feature all four of what would become the top four teams of the decade.

We were a machine, but we'd been snake-bitten in the tournament so many times. I'll never forget the faces in the locker room after the Michigan State shocker the previous season. The Michigan game was almost a monumental upset as well. Then to be trailing entering the final period on Saturday felt awful. Jim Montgomery had been a leader in so many ways but in the third period of that title game he was the definition of the leader by example. He was unstoppable.

By the way, the athletics department just released an ad for this game featuring a picture of Rob McGovern. Wonder if they consulted Red before that went out...

Jimmy was a leader. Shame on Maine for not taking him in. Imagine the difference. ???

Well, #uc!-a-diddle. Cut my skiing weekend short to park it in front of the tube for this one. If Rob starts, my prediction of a Maine win..?

A lot of you folks seem to regard UNH as Maine's fiercest rival, but to me it's always been BU. They were always infinitely easier to hate. Oddly, then, the only 2 Maine games I've left early were v. BU.

The 1st was in maybe '80. Maine was getting walloped like 6-1 in the 2nd and all but one of us bailed to get our drunk on and chase skirts. When that lone believer joined us at the Bear's Den later to relate that Maine had caught fire and won it 8-7 (IIRC), we thought that he was the inebriated one. To this day, I regret having missed it.

The '93 loss was the inverse of that. We were at Killington watching Maine dismantle BU on the tube. When that astounding Maine squad went up 6-2, we figured that the ship had sailed, and hit the bars in search of ski-bunnies. On the next day we were amazed (and dismayed) to hear the final score, but I really don't regret missing that one.

The common theme here is Demon Alcohol and wimmens... Brothers, you must avoid both pitfalls at every turn. ;)

It was never an option. For many reasons. It's long past time to stop thinking about it.

BU was our chief rival but that's because we were the top two teams in Hockey East and the coaches despised each other. Over time that has changed. Even back then we were never BU's chief rival. That will always be BC. The Crockpot schools have also been ahead of Maine of the list. For me, I still consider BU as an opponent but I'll always see Travis in that uniform so BU will never be the hated rival it once was. The passion just isn't there for me.
