Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Losing Matt Mangene is a huge loss. Such is the nature of elite college hockey teams, Maine is not alone in losing players early.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Wish the source was as credible as the reporting! Is a Defenseman and had 10 points last year????? I mean it is so easy to get the correct info before you post something! As for Matt, as the season wore on I started to have some concern. He would have been a dominant player and potential Hobey Baker candidate. Tough loss, top 6 forwards next year are hurt and we will really need both Lomberg and Shore to be impact freshmen!

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Sucks for depth. Good for Matt I guess I still don't think he's near ready.

He's not as good as Diamond. Not a Hobey candidate. I would've said that this time last year about Abott so you never know.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

That means Maine is losing 4 of its 5 top scorers from this year. You better either have a bunch of stud recruits coming in or are going to need MAJOR, MAJOR improvement from your existing forwards. What about Diamond, would have to think he's a flight risk as well?

I don't either.

He has great wheels, but little patience with the puck on his stick, and his speed will be largely wasted at D. Hope for his sake that they play him on the wing.

I wish him the best, though... Guess when you're 23 and you get an offer, it's time to take that next step.

It's getting even harder to imagine an NCAA berth in '12/'13 right about now. :(

BTW, just noticed that Jeff Dimmen is on the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL, they are on a 22 game win streak with the best record in the league.

Solid, stay-at-home D numbers.

I think Jeff can make a living in the NHL, a la Mike Lundin. There is still a place there for guys who do nothing more than take care of their own end very well. (Maine could use a few of them, come to think of it.)

It would not be hard to think that Diamond will get offers before the summer starts. Losing Mangene will hurt, but if Diamond should leave that would be alot of a void to makeup.

I know huh. Won't that be a pleasant change? We'll actually have a season where we can all relax and hopefully watch the team develop and "steal" a few games. No pressure for Whitehead........he'll actually have a valid excuse for once. Of course this could make it more difficult to make a decision on another extension if he has a losing season. Woodward's 3 year extension could be a sign of things to come...........

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I sure hope Maine does ok next year. Enough to keep Whitehead around anyway. That's why this year's "success" was so fun for everyone... Another reason to sign up Tim for another few years. To be fair, he did do a pretty good job this year.

Mangene to Flyers, hearing 3 year deal...more than Abbott or Flynn who signed one year entry levels....let;'s see. His speed is intriguing for anyone who sees it and his room mates dad is a key player personel guy with Philly........His Faux tough guy act will have to be curtailed or some faerm boy from Saskatchewan will hand him his hat.....good luck to him though, good for the program to pump out pros. whether you believe Tim Ghandi has an influence or not....

Let's hope Joey sees this as a chance to demomnstrate that he can do it on his own....Beattie, Shemmansky, Anthoine....better get your big boy pants on and soon....

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

I hope Tim realizes that players turning pro is good for the program as that is the goal for most players who come here. Should make it easier to recruit top end talent.
