Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

If your theory is true, Priceless, why announce a national search? Wouldn't they just say what you theorized?
They may still do a national search and if someone blows their socks off in an interview, go with him. If not, say Corkum is the guy. Maybe even take the interim tag off after the search and say he's the guy. And he very well could be, judging by that letter he wrote to the fans.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I wanted to reach out to all of the Black Bear supporters and fans in order to connect and address all of the concerns you have about Maine Hockey. Without a doubt, our program means the world to many people across our state and I take immense pride that I have been able to compete in a Maine Jersey and Coach some tremendous players the past 5 years. With every ounce of my being, I will bring back the energy and electricity to Alfond Arena that has been missing... once again it will be the absolute best place in the country to watch a hockey game.

Our players will be held accountable to preform at their absolute best every time they step on the ice, as Coach Walsh held me accountable each and every shift. You will see, a high tempo, hard nosed physical team who can play with discipline and charisma. I understand that there is an assumed connection with Coach Whitehead, but our coaching concepts and philosophies differ. If my position becomes permanent, I would implement the culture and brotherhood necessary to instill the passion our players and fans are desperate to see.

We are all a family... And I plan to initiate a grass roots effort to do whatever is necessary to make each and every one of you feel a part of this team. This connection has been lost and our players need your support. We have to do this together, let’s bring back Maine Hockey to where it needs to be.

Feel free to call or email me with any questions or comments, I would love your input and feedback, it will help me re-connect this program to our community and our great state. (207-581-1166) robert.corkum@umit.maine.edu

Sincerely, Bob Corkum.
Welcome to The Forum Bob. Great note. Very glad to have you. There is a lot of great conversation and also a lot of sarcasm and nonsense. But most of all there is a contingency of die-hard, loyal, we-bleed-Blue Maine Hockey fans who have suffered alot over the past few years and really need you to step up. The past is the past. Let's go forward. You have our support.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

One of my chief fears about this situation has been relieved. Yesterday one of the players told me Steve Abbott is meeting daily with the team, addressing concerns and keeping them informed of what is happening. I have been very critical of Abbott and think he deserves credit for how he has handled this with the student athletes.

Meeting with the team, but can't meet with any potential coaching candidates. Just cause he has Corkum as the fallback. You snooze, you lose.

Why would Jimmy wait and hold out for the Maine job, which he's not guaranteed to get, especially if Denver offers more money?

Sincerely, Bob Corkum.

Sounds as if he's already got the job.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Well I must say I like what Bob has to say. I agree 100% with his philosophy and there is no doubt about his love and passion for the program. I wouldn't be dissapointed if the choice was him. Priceless may just be on to something. Jimmay's gonna be pizzed.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Hasn't been confirmed, but I have been told this makes sense considering the circumstances. We'll see.

Corkum will be the interim coach for the year to see what he can do. If all goes well, the interim tag comes off and he's made permanent.

One of the reasons for this is that Abbott is stepping down June 1 and doesn't want to name a permanent replacement that his successor will have to live with. I also think part of that is this administration is gunshy and doesn't want to make a decision. This buys them a year.

Those are both theories. I have no idea if they are correct, but they are logical.

Haven't we seen this story before? How'd that work out?

Not that I don't believe Bob would be a major improvement over TIMMAY.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Why the silence from the internet nutcases who clamored for years insisting on a national search? Why so mum now ?? I'll say it again, if I'm the new AD coming in, I want this all settled prior to me getting there by people who know the situation, the people and the fans, instead of dumping this powderkeg in my lap. This theory of leaving the problem to the new AD doesnt wash with me. Lets do it right once and for all.

I guess you have to ask yourself if he deservise a shot. As much as Jimmy or anyone else. It does have the appearances of a lazy way out for the U however.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Heres another possible outcome. Jimmy gets offered the DU job and accepts, Bobby gets tired of the U's waffling and consequently leaves, and Paul Pooley is the last and only candidate available. :D

Gotta admit, this thread gets wierder by the minute.

According to DU guys on their forum (All Things Denver--XXXV), Monty is the 4th of 4 candidates and a late entry.
Appert #1, LaLonde #2, Brown from BC #3, Monty #4.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Or, they go grovelling back to TIMMAY, like he did with Jeff Marshall.

If they do a national search, which I believe wholeheartedly should happen, they don't then name an interim coach - they name a head coach, period.

maybe, but who knows what an interview can do?

Appert's got the Denver connection, and he's done better at RPI, but still hasn't been setting the world on fire. Lalonde looks pretty successful in the USHL, sorta like Jimmy, and also has the Denver connection, Brown for all I know is a solid coach, but really doesn't seem inspirational, just solid, like he was as a player.

Jimmy's a guy who inspires, and can lead and coach.

I think Jimmy gets offered the DU job. Gut feeling.

End product is more important than the process. As long as Maine gets Jimmy or Bob I would be happy. The sooner this is cleared up the better. Jimmy would def bring more excitement but I think Bob may well be the better coach. He certainly knows where things have gone wrong the last few years to.

Whoa Whoa!! Uncle Ray spot on! You don't publicly announce a national search then three days later go turtle and say 'Hey, we'll let Bob run with it for now and hold off until the new AD comes in'. Not fair to Bob and makes the U look like godd*mn fools. The wheels are set in motion guys. I'm thinking the search is the search. Game on. Do it now and do it swiftly. Give this program some definitive direction after you had the brains and stones to can Whitehead!
