Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I think out there in the mile high city it will come down to Lalonde and Montgomery. Just my guess. Jimmy has got to feel he is swimming against the current for the Maine job. Wishing him the best.

One of my chief fears about this situation has been relieved. Yesterday one of the players told me Steve Abbott is meeting daily with the team, addressing concerns and keeping them informed of what is happening. I have been very critical of Abbott and think he deserves credit for how he has handled this with the student athletes.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Abbott is a smart guy and gets it. I respect the fact he didnt panic and call Montgomery or anyone the first day and act like they were the savior. Maine is a big time job and a premier program throughout N America. If they want it, they can apply like everyone else. I doubt Pelerin was shocked and stunned he didnt get called.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Bangor Daily News

He said Thursday he was interested in the vacant Maine job but hadn’t been contacted by anyone from the university and was “shocked and stunned” that he hadn’t been.

“I hope they contact me,” said the 43-year-old Montgomery, who added that there was “no doubt in my mind” he could return the Black Bears to a position of national prominence.

--

They haven't even contacted him yet? Are they waiting for him to take the job in Denver and then they'll call him?

It's like one step forward two steps back with them. It really shouldn't have taken three weeks to get rid of Timmy either.

It was assumed part of the three weeks was either quietly contacting Jim or others about the impending vacancy as well as trying to raise the money to cover TW's contract. I guess the former never happened.

Indicative of nothing, but on Twitter Jim follows both DU Hockey and the DU Athletic Department accounts. Want to guess how many accounts from UMaine he follows?

That's the last straw. Fire Jimmay!

This was just posted by Associate AD Laura Reed over on the Black Bear fans facebook group:

Coach Corkum asked me to post this to this group.

I wanted to reach out to all of the Black Bear supporters and fans in order to connect and address all of the concerns you have about Maine Hockey. Without a doubt, our program means the world to many people across our state and I take immense pride that I have been able to compete in a Maine Jersey and Coach some tremendous players the past 5 years. With every ounce of my being, I will bring back the energy and electricity to Alfond Arena that has been missing... once again it will be the absolute best place in the country to watch a hockey game.

Our players will be held accountable to perform at their absolute best every time they step on the ice, as Coach Walsh held me accountable each and every shift. You will see, a high tempo, hard nosed physical team who can play with discipline and charisma. I understand that their is an assumed connection with Coach Whitehead, but coaching concepts and philosophies differ. If my position becomes permanent, I would implement the culture and brotherhood necessary to instill the passion our players and fans are desperate to see.

We are all a family... And I plan to initiate a grass roots effort to do whatever is necessary to make each and every one of you feel a part of this team. This connection has been lost and our players need your support. We have to do this together, let's bring back Maine Hockey to where it needs to be.

Feel free to call or email me with any questions or comments, I would love your input and feedback, it will help me re-connect this program to our community and our great state. (207-581-1166) robert.corkum@umit.maine.edu

Sincerely, Bob Corkum.

I have a theory that I'm trying to get confirmed before I post it...

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

My bad. And all this time I thought we were actually going to perform a search...above board where all have the same shot at it, and I had aleady counted my money for being on the search committee :(

Sounds like the search is over.

A bit unconventional Bob, but certainly straight up and gutsy. Kind of like how you played the game. :) Appreciate your input.

Welcome to the forum , Bob. You will get lots of entertainment here. Hope you don't take it too seriously.:D

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Hasn't been confirmed, but I have been told this makes sense considering the circumstances. We'll see.

Corkum will be the interim coach for the year to see what he can do. If all goes well, the interim tag comes off and he's made permanent.

One of the reasons for this is that Abbott is stepping down June 1 and doesn't want to name a permanent replacement that his successor will have to live with. I also think part of that is this administration is gunshy and doesn't want to make a decision. This buys them a year.

Those are both theories. I have no idea if they are correct, but they are logical.

The flip side of that coin is that if Jimmay is interested, he should be reaching out to Steve.

Welcome to the summer home of the Internet Nutcases, Bob. I hope that is actually you and not some imposter.

This is very logical.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

If your theory is true, Priceless, why announce a national search? Wouldn't they just say what you theorized?

This is great to see! Shawn would be ever so proud.
