Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

You imagine how the Alfond would be opening night with Jimmy behind the bench? Holy crap, it would be 1989 Maine-Providence again.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I have no idea how realistic it is and what his feelings are, but it'd be nice to see Corkum stick around if its Montgomery. I'm not sure he's ready to be a head coach yet but I think he gets it and could be an asset, hate to lose him.

Wally's spot on, they have to do a national search, a real one this time, otherwise if Jimmy ever falters it'll haunt him.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Coaches move on all the time, Its very likely Leaman isn't interested but I'd say he goes to the top of a short list if interested. Cav from BC, again who knows but stick the bait out there and see if it bites? Appert from RPI, looks to be DU bound but who knows? Jimmy and Grant, certainly would bring instant excitement to Orono, money would flow for sure.
Don Granto, brother of Tony Granato has a very good chance at the DU job...along with Appert.

Agree...think Corkum makes a very good assistant coach from what I can gather.

So lets just say for talking purposes it is Jimmy next season. At what game would he be welcomed back onto the Alfond ice for what would be an extraordinary event in front of, no doubt, an overwhelmingly huge and appreciative crowd?

If Jimmy doesn't get the job there are going to be a lot of disappointed folks. Regardless of who they think the best coach might be you have to pick him just to get the enthusiasm back.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I realize its not a gigantic media contingent in Maine, but they couldn't have gotten Timmy a chair or a podium or something?

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

think you could tone down that signature a bit? It is kind of annoying.
That was pretty much the point. To show guys with several multiple-line quotes in their sig lines how obnoxious it is. How the site is easier on the eyes if a quote is rewritten into one line. Guys like 4four4, Priceless, FlagDUDE to name a few off the top of my head. Since it has met with mixed success, it will be changing soon.

Nice job finding a four month old post to send neg rep to, btw.

of course it would be up to the head coach to decide who would best complement his strengths, but I wouldn't mind seeing Corkum stick around associate head coach. Kurluke has to go. I wish him success in the future, but he needs to move on from Maine.

Disagree. The best way to get the enthusiasm back long term is to bring in the best coach, not the most popular one at the time of hiring.

Great. Those are guys who are posting in threads that most of us Maine fans don't read, so you are really just punishing us.

Getting the enthusiasm back is essential to getting the team competitive again, I worry fans would be kind if lukewarm over some of the other candidates. I'm not really sold on any of the others either, who knows how they interview though. Cav would probably second choice for me. I think Leaman is flavor of the week right now. I don't think Gwoz would be a good fit and the others don't have enough experience.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I'd like to see it be someone with experience in the college game, or juniors. Maybe I am just having Tim Army flashbacks, but I'm not sure that an AHL guy is the answer.

Broad brush, I know.

I want someone who is hungary, has a drive to not stop until he creates the best hockey program and the desire to keep it going. I don't really care if he has college hockey coaching experience.

I could see that if he took either Union or PC upwards but he has done it at 2 different schools now. Don't see flavor of the week when he has done it twice

How many trophies has he won? Big difference between making a team competitive and winning championships. Maybe he will do it but I'm not completely sold. Monty has won trophies with Dubuque.
