Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

So if you're a Maine fan I guess you can be critical of the coaching, the AD, this "review process", the team, the players, etc, etc, but God forbid if a non-Maine fan questions how anyone in their right mind would refer to Maine's returning players as being "tremendous". If Coach York came out today in the papers and said this had been a tremendous season, or if he'd made the same ludicrous remark about their being tremendous talent returning next year for BC, I would have called him crazy as well, but thank God he's not that dense. Bottom line is that the bar has apparently been lowered quite a bit up at Orono.

Talent coming back seems to meaningless, after all look at what happen at Minnesota this year and they only lose one senior Seth Helgeson this June.

. Maine on the other hand will definitely find another Kariya, Montgomery, and Imes soon. The Black Bears have a way way way brighter future than BC. You'd have to be crazy not to see that. Not to mention how terrible BC's recruiting class is next year. Maine's is way way better.
Hey, you forgot Joey Diamond

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

It's true. Great point.

Finding a Mike Brennan, or a Brian Gionta, or a Tommy Cross, or a Matt Price or a Marty Reasoner or a Ben Eaves. Those guys are once in a lifetime finds. Or 6 times in 16 years if you actually add it all up.

Those great leaders are so tough to find for BC. I doubt BC ever finds another hockey player with good leadership. There is nowhere to go for the program except up, in my opinion, especially if Tim leaves. But BC will definitely be good for the near future at least. I still take Drew's point in regards to York though, they appeared to be flagging this year and will have to prove themselves in the next few seasons to maintain elite status.

I see BC in a 'wicked' tailspin. No talent as evidenced by the whooping laid on them by an EZAC team no less, a coach who's past his prime and fans who dont give a chit. Nice run...very nice run, but its ovah. Tuff luck, maybe Umile can take over the reins. They be lucky to win 10 games next season.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I won't worry too much about BC,they'll be fine for the next few years plus...they and Minnesota have the top recruiting classes coming in,WHY,because they win and in BC's case they have one of the Best Coaches in College Hockey History...but for Maine to get out of it's hole,CHANGE and that won't happen over night either...rebuilding will take it's toll the 1st and 2nd years, just look at Providence under Nate Leeman,he's put his plan in place and the first 2 years he has started a Foundation, plus adding Gillies last summer will make Year 3 very interesting...and the firing? of Gwozdecky @ Denver is a surprise...he'll land somewhere's quickly...maybe @ UAA..?

Unlike your AD, I'll be the first to admit that BC was lacking in talented depth this year and doesn't return a ton next year either. That being said, in close to 30 years of following the program, I have never seen even close to the amount of potential future Hobey candidates that are lined up for the next 2-3 recruiting classes. So much so, that the biggest problem they face is that some of these guys may not even show up or at best be one and done players.

Personally responsible? Good way of putting it. All it really means is that diamond was surrounded with suckbag talent this year. You would never admit it but joey also contributed to the losing with all of his foolish, selfish penalties.

Anyway, if gwoz being fired doesn't wake up your AD, hard to imagine what will. Maine being good is better for the league.

Wow. Gwadz gets fired at Denver and we keep putting up with TIMMAY time. Unbelievable. Are you freaking kidding me? What a f#ck#ng joke.

how many games of his to you watch this season?

I was at every home game at Alfond Arena. Diamond did so many good things on the ice and won games. On the other hand, I agree with JD, he did many selfish and stupid things to cost his team wins (probably a wash). None were so selfish as those in the post season.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Gwoz isn't done coaching. Do we have a new generation Jeff Jackson if this thing ends up a bag job for Montgomery or Whitehead stays?

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Denver was d*mn lucky to kill off Maine's 3 man advantage to end that NC game!

We were sitting behind the net in the corner and to this day NO WAY was there a man in the crease on that disallowed goal (well maybe an inch - and that's before they changed the rule so that now he can be in the crease as long as he doesn't INTERFERE - but it's too late for Maine). That last minute of the game with the 6 on 3 was one of the most incredible moments I can remember besides 2009 and two goals in less than a minute. (and no, Sandiegoblkbr I'm not following you around the threads :D)
