Maine Recruits: When Ashes Fall, Legends Rise

Sorry folks, I have been neglecting the recruits thread. I have been bogged down with restructuring my investments. Seems like it should have been easy, but it wasn’t smooth rolling normal IRA into a precious metal IRA. Anyways now that stuff is behind me.

I see we had a new commit and wanted to post some info on him. He seems similar to play similar to Thomas Freel, though I would say Rowan has more speed.

Luke Mistelbacher has been locked in recently and is up to 28 points in 18 games to start the year for the Wheat Kings.

Averaging about 5 SOG per game and has 9 multi-point games (to just 5 scoreless games). Looking like he'll slot right into the lineup next season.
I thought he was ready for Maine this year. Not sure why he waited a year.

I thought he was ready for Maine this year. Not sure why he waited a year.
imo he might've without the trade, but in the off season he was sent to 1. a slightly better team (both are bad but Brandon is better) 2. his home province of Manitoba, which is the farthest east WHL location, and his hometown is 2 hours east from Brandon 3. decidedly not swift current- the broncos are one of the more financially unstable orgs, partially in being from the smallest town.

for most players it won't hurt to wait a year. just because he could get into the lineup right now doesn't mean it would be the best option for him. he might have a better transition. also possible he has some academic requirements remaining.

Zach Wooten no longer committed. Don’t love it.
I had Arneson as always being a depth piece, so replacing him should be easy.

Wooten I had as a starter LW ascending to 3rd line LW. So likely he saw his road as a top 6 forward for Maine as difficult to achieve. I believe Calvert is the replacement for Wooten.

Wish both players luck, but I chalk this up to players de committing due to not being able to project themselves into top 6.

I also expect the following players to not make it to Maine… Jaden Johnson, Alex Bosland, Julien Wasmer, Dante Siciliano. Again I think it comes down to not being able to project themselves into top into meaningful minutes.

I see Calvert as the replacement for Freel. Score their goals in similar ways. Calvert obviously coming from a stronger league than Freel did when he arrived.

Sucks losing Wooten. Put up 5 goals this weekend. Reminds me of when they lost Ben Meyers a while back. He went hot when he de-committee then ended up being a stud.

Maine has lost 3 guys to Big 10 schools in the last 18 months. Wooten committed to Wisconsin today. Joins Montgomery who is also there and Kuzma who bolted for Penn St (playing in the OHL though this year).

End of the day it’s not the end of world and Maine is going to be fine and replace with guys that want to be here. But all those guys were bigger than most of their current roster.

I think finding a way to add some size back, and finding a dman with two way ability with length are high priorities for the future. Also adding a high end center for next year. Someone again, with size.

I don't know if Maine would bring in so many forwards with only 1 senior (Freel) on the team currently (2 if Fowler doesn't play a graduate year) unless we are expecting a lot of forwards to turn pro early or transfer. Right now I only see Poirer as the only forward with a higher chance of getting an early pro deal after the season with Lipinski having a lower chance.

I agree that Jaden Johnson will probably be cut. I think probably 2-4 of Poul Anderson, Malachi McKinnon, Kuzma Voronin, Evan Van Gorp will be told to wait until the following season to join the team. I understand if they are told to wait there is a chance they decommit and commit to another team, which is perhaps what happened with Wooten. If I had to choose 1 of the 4 I would personally bring in Malachi because he is performing the best of the 4 offensively and it gives Maine a higher chance of recruiting his younger brother Maverick (currently projecting as one of the top 2010's in the 2028 draft class) if they attempt to recruit him in the future.

In terms of defensemen we have 3 seniors, Arnott, Chabrier, and Holt leaving us with 7 defensemen after the season before early pro deals and the transfer portal. Right now for defensemen I only see Langlois as having a higher chance of getting an early pro deal after the current season. I'd assume there would probably be at least 1 maybe 2 defensemen leaving for the transfer portal to get more playing time leaving us with 5 or 6 defensmen before transfer portal and recruit additions. That would mean there needs to be a combination of 2-3 defensemen from the transfer portal and recruits picked up.

It's hard for me to project if a defensemen recruit is doing good because I don't watch the games. I can only tell if a recruit is doing good offensively based on stats and league strength (USHL, CHL etc,), I don't know how good a recruit is defensively unless I look at +/- though that is more indicative of their lines play not just their own. With forwards it's easier to at least see how good they are offensively. So I can't comment with reason on which defensemen would likely be cut.

We had 7 additional players transfer out last season in addition to the ones that graduated. I think it is safe to assume there will be others that transfer out early next year. It is just how it goes. If they aren’t getting the playing time or special teams playing time they may decide to move on. I definitely think that it depends on who was declared as exempt players as well. If we lose one of those ones then we can’t replace with new recruit. I assume they used exemption on Stewart and Pichette.

But I would say we are in the age now where if Barr thinks he can get more out of bringing in all 4 he can go to the others he wants to move on and say it is a good idea to enter the portal. Califiore seems like a candidate for that. Perhaps James and Peluso may move on if they can’t crack the line up. Plus we may see Poirier moving on early AHL contract if he keeps this pace up. Maybe Josh Nadeau if he catches fire.

So for now I make a list of who I think deserves to come in. Then when time comes we will know who stays and who goes we can revise it. But the guys I mentioned I think can step into Maine roster and contribute. Team would be very deep next year if so.

I'd actually be quite okay if Wasmer made the jump next season to help offset some of those D losses. He's looked pretty good from what I've seen of him so far this season in the Q. Not sure about Bosland or Siciliano as I haven't watched any BCHL games this season but I'd think Barr could find some options in the portal or CHL if either of them aren't up to snuff.
