Maine Recruits: When Ashes Fall, Legends Rise

College Puck NXT dropped their '09 database today. Compiled a list of all the guys with Maine listed.

Couple Notes:

Dylan Sampair's brother Henry is currently a Maine commit. They also have a '10 brother named Landon as well.

J.P. Montgomery is Jimmy Mo's son.

Quinn Beumer is from Orono, MN. Just think it would be kind of humorous if he made his way to a different Orono.

I looked a little closer at his profile, and Poirier looks like he could be a huge addition. Scoring is famously a lot higher in the QMJHL for whatever reason compared to other leagues, but 94 goals in two regular seasons, plus over a goal-per-game in the Q playoffs last year (18 G, 17 GP) does the talking no matter the league. Really hope that reporting turns out to be true, a guy like him would be a godsend to this team.

Declan Wotton is a likely future Blackbear, imagine he went to a lot of UMaine games as a kid. I’m sure Maine fans would be happy to see him play in Orono since he grew up so close by.

Dylan Sampair is likely interested in playing with his older brother Henry at UMaine.

JP Montgomery is Jimmy’s son, so I’m sure Maine is a favorite there. Barr shared an office with Jimmy at RPI and Jimmy endorsed Barr when they had the search committee.

I’ll have to do some digging on each recruit. They can first start committing on August 1st.

In the other thread there is speculation that Maine is recruiting Miguel Marques of Lethbridge(WHL)). So I wanted to put a little info here in case folks want to check him out. He is a 3rd round pick of Nashville Predators. He is gifted with high end skill that makes him a dangerous scorer. I like his stickhandling, vision, and passing to generate high grade chances for his line mates. I wonder if he would make a good center over time. Work on defensive side and being a 200 ft player, and winning face offs. He is very deadly through the middle of the ice. He also seems to constantly keep his feet moving by nature. Potentially for being a premier center it seems.

Miguel Marques(Lethbridge(WHL)), 3/8/06, 1st RW, 5’11” 180 lbs, NZ 4.5, shoot-first mentality, high-end passing skills, has grit and tenacity, dynamic skater using edges to gain space, wins board battles, hi hockey IQ, vision, creative playmaker, good release, attacks through center of ice, great stick handling through tight areas, keeps his feet moving even through contact, needs to develop better defensive skills, can hustle back and use stick for back checking, needs add strength and develop body positioning to defend better
