Maine Recruits: When Ashes Fall, Legends Rise

Sutter Muzzatti a 6'6 center from RPI has entered the portal. 5th round draft pick of Nashville's in 2023. He only played 10 games this year due to injury but had 10-15-25 in 33 games as a Sophomore. Could be a decent way to shore up the center position next year and replace some of Renwick and Makar's size.

He had the second lowest +/- that sophomore year, CHIP of 0.4, and highest PIM by a long ways. I don’t think he would be nearly as fast as Renwick and/or Makar. Renwick was runner up for defensive forward of the year in hockey east. It doesn’t appear as though Muzzatti plays good defense. He would only have 1 year of eligibility. He would likely be a wing for Maine. Not sure what the coaching staff will do, but not seeing him as a positive difference maker. But what do I know.

RPI had another player enter the portal, Felix Caron, who was 3rd on their team in points as a freshman. He has 3 years of eligibility left wherever he goes. He was 3rd in scoring last year in the BCHL. 6’ 175 lbs, RW

Edit: played RW exclusively at RPI, mostly 2nd line RW.

Updated with more recents stats again, but I'm mainly reposting because I added a tab with the top uncommited/unsigned Forward CHL 04's. All are close to 1 point per game or more.
Awesome job on that CHL ‘04 sheet.

I will post a page with info for most or all ‘04 uncommitted in OHL, QMJHL, and WHL. It will have the NZ ratings and play style description. And some video links.

Incredible work Sparkee. I'll begin to add the NZ Ratings, player descriptions, add the defensemen and the goalie to the list. I'll also remove Jacob Mathieu (EP didn't have him listed at NE for 25-26, so I probably should cross reference with Heisenberg's list for the other recruits as well).

Update: All Finished updating.

Maine recruit Nick Wellenreiter got an assist(3:00) and a goal(5:20) in North Bay’s first playoff game last night where he was 3rd star: https://chl.ca/ohl/gamecentre/28045/

In that game an uncommitted standout ‘04 Patrick Thomas had a goal and an assist and was 2nd star. Lets hope he is on Maine’s recruiting radar.

Maine recruit defensemen Loic Usereau had two assists in Chicoutimi’s first playoff game last night: https://chl.ca/lhjmq/en/gamecentre/31765/

Maine recruit defensemen Alex Bosland had two assists in Blackfald’s game last night: https://bchl.ca/stats/game-center/13415

Maine recruit defensemen Dante Siciliano had a goal in Brook’s game last night: https://bchl.ca/stats/game-center/13414

Maine recruit Kuzma Voronin scored a goal in Fargo’s game last night: https://ushl.com/ht/#/game-summary/12312

Macias, Graham, Arsenault, rated 3.75 by NZ.

Donovan Houle’s younger brother, Noah Houle, entered the portal after a good freshman season at Lindenwood. He is a defenseman and was a team high +7 and was the highest ppg for a defenseman on his team. He was also 4th highest TOI for defensemen on his team. He also was 4th highest CHIP rating for the team.

Hoping Harrison Scott’s younger brother, Max Scott, transfers to Maine. He was the top line center for Brown and was a captain and wore a C as a sophomore this season. He was 5th on his team in CHIP rating and was 2nd on his team in time on ice. He is at a 0.8 ppg for scoring. He also was a finalist for best defensive forward in ECAC. So seems defensively sound. In reading up on him he sounds very similar in style to Harrison. Let’s hope we can land him. Would be a welcome addition I am sure as we lost 3 centers this year.

Agree with this. He'd be a great pickup.

Think Maine grabs another goalie or does Ryder Shea come this fall?
I don't think Maine grabs another goalie. There's only a handful of good goalies in the transfer portal and they'll go somewhere else where they can get playingtime. I think they bring in Shea/Vecvanags this upcoming season and then the following season either he and/or Vecvanags starts unless there is a more seasoned/better goalie in the TP during the next offseason. They also could get a TP senior goaltender that isn't expecting to play many games to delay Shea and Vecvanags to arriving next year.

Have to wonder how much it would trip up the development for either Shea (18) or Vecvanags (19) to essentially sit behind a workhorse like Boija for a year. Only getting 67 minutes of playing time this season clearly didn't work for Berzins and have to think there won't be many minutes available next year as well (barring an unfortunate injury, etc).

That's not to say I wouldn't welcome either because from what I've seen of them they both are very talented, but a stop-gap transfer portal senior as you mention might be the best option. Maybe a guy like Luke Pearson from Yale?

It seems you would want either Shea or Vecvanags to be a #1 on their junior team before coming in. Neither did that, and both seem to show relatively average this season for their respective leagues.

Another avenue is to recruit a better goalie that has proven to have great numbers and is higher rated by NZ anyways…

Maine is a powerhouse for goalie development, so I don’t see why Maine wouldn’t pull top goalie recruits. I say bring this Mercer in and just let him know he’s gonna spend a year playing light duty behind Boija(likely) and then be competing for top spot after Boija goes pro next year. Gives Ryder and Vecvanags more time in juniors to develop.
