AJ Drobot and Simon Butala will be competing on Elite Hockey Group at the OHL Cup March 11-16. It's a minor midget tournament and is the final major scouting event before the OHL draft. Competing in this event doesn't jeopardize NCAA eligibility. Don't read too much into it.

The NTDP U-17 evaluation camp roster for next year's should be released on Tuesday. Both players are hoping to be apart of the camp.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Well, I am not sure it matters too much. I think any time there is a coaching change this stuff happens. I guess it is like going on job interviews and having your pick and deciding on a certain job because you liked the boss and the way he mentioned what he had in mind for you. Then you find out he leaves and the reasons you may have liked that job are no longer the difference maker. So you choose a different one. Not a big deal. In my opinion, what is most important is that Red gets the type of guy he wants and can fit into his idea of a strong team. By and large the current list of recruits seem outstanding. My biggest problem is that I wish there were more info on these recruits. For example, one of the recruits has a highlight film on youtube. I wish that existed for all of the recruits. For the diehards it is very interesting to get a sneak preview of players before they get to Maine.

I tried to recap the recruits earlier where I linked it to stories Larry had written to give some sort of an idea of how each player is characterized. I have seen little info on Ryan Badger other than he is captain of his team, one of the top scorers in his league, and had a shoot out goal posted on youtube. Other than that it seems like little info on him.

There is one recruit, Ivan Provorov, that is on a USHL team and it is considered he is getting recruited by Yale and Penn State. I can imagine this means Red was watching him when he skated for Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights junior team. From other things I've read it seems he is outstanding and one of the top rated defensemen recruits not yet signed on to a team. We can only hope Maine can land some of these blue chip recruits like they used to every year. Some of the younger recruits on the list seem like the blue chip types. I also have been trying to follow the usa hockey teams. It seems like another top recruit is this Luke Kirwan. He seems like a power forward with a capital P. You can see some of the videos of his play. But from what I read he got draft major junior and might go that route. Well, if we don't get either of these recruits, oh well. But it would be nice to see Maine as one of the teams at least trying to recruit these top guys.

Checked out the Recruiting List and this is what I came up with to date...anyone know of any add ons or leaving..? Here's what I found: @ Defense; Hayes-Spicer-Hamilton ---@ Forwards; Musil-Widmar-Badger-Pecararo-Vesey '14 or '15..? Goaltender;Romeo.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

When you see a guy going to Huntsville over Maine, you have to wonder who de-committed who.

Did not say Salerno was a decommit. I think in both cases the current coaching staff looked at them and told them they both would be better off seeking other opportunities. Maine's last two recruiting classes under TW were strong, but there were way to many misses along the way. I hope both Salerno and Bjorkung have excellent college careers, but am also glad that Red and company shed some of the recruits TW had for some of their own.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Thanks for the clarification.

Recruiting has been an issue since the mid-2000's, and it doesn't do anyone any good to bring in guys who will never fit the mold.

That's where Tim failed, first and foremost.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

According to Red Gendron as of 3-26 the Recruiting Class for this upcoming season is set(2014-15)...with that said "WHO" are the Recruits coming in..? I put down these names before...are these the players coming in this Fall.? Recruits: Goaltender;Remeo - D-Men; Hayes/Spicer/Hamilton - Forwards; Widmar/Pecararo/Musil/Badger...with Vesey either this fall or next.?

You can most likely include Vesey coming in this fall. He scored in bunches in the USPHL. The only reason I could see for him going back to juniors would be if he wanted to give the USHL a shot.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Seven or eight skaters (D/F) coming in, only three (Swavely, O'Connor, Anthoine) leaving. Something's gotta give.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Wally, -and anyone else who cares to offer an opinion- who do you see sitting/leaving?

(I ask because I don't see a whole lot of difference in the skill-level at Maine once you get past the 7-8 best players there.)

I don't know if anyone is leaving(Transfer)...but in the Stands Department: D-Man Kyle Williams & D/F Bill Norman...and to just add this would anyone be surprised "IF" Conner Riley would become a D/F,he has done both and that Will Merchant should show up "READY" to play from the get-go or he could too join the Stands Crew(just imo on #28,he needs to prove he belongs full time).

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

The only D guys assured of a spot are Hutton, Rutt and Schurhamer, the rest who knows? Depends on the guys coming in and how good of shape, improvement etc the returnees are. Forwards, the guys who didn't play much I doubt get a spot, other than that it once again depends on incoming recruits. A little competition for spots on the team might spur some guys on this offseason

I think you can add Renouf to the above three with 2 openings come this fall...competition is good and I can't see this returning bunch not hungry to make the jump into the big time...NCAA's. Goaltending will be what many will deem as the question-mark going into a New Season....not that one or two from the group can't run with it(Morris/Nugnes/Remeo).

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

I can see Cerretani in the stands crew as well. Henke and Campbell could end up being bubble guys also, but as I said before, I think Campbell might take a big step up next season.

Renouf looked alot better early then he did at the end of the season, Needs strength badly but he has some offense so you are probably correct in that he will play

Hear you loud and clear on the strength part...that goes for all the team as they were pushed around by PC in the regular season ending series and then in the Quarter-Finals @ PC...as long as Renouf and Schurhamer are paired together...they make a good d-pair. But we will let next falls camp take care of the pairings.
