Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Grant Hill, a senior at Cushing Academy, has committed to Maine for the 2017-18 season. The link is here.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Maine hockey journal says freshman class all set,, NLI's in.

""Forward Ryan Smith from the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League and goalie Tyler Johnson of the North American Hockey League’s Topeka Roadrunners have joined seven other players in the recruiting class for next fall.
Center/left wing Tim Doherty, who attended Brown University but didn’t appear in a game and wound up playing for the Boston Junior Bruins of the U.S. Premier Hockey League, and 6-foot-8 goaltender Stephen Mundinger from the New York Aviators of the NA3EHL also are recent additions to go with Smith and Johnson and November signees Chase Pearson, Patrick Shea, Mitchell Fossier, Jake Pappalardo and Patrick Holway.""

I wonder if Spicer, quinlivan, and hock are pushed back to next year or will be going elsewhere. It looks like the best class Maine has had in a while to me. Hopefully Red can back it up in the following years with more good classes.

I'm closely optimistic about johson, saw something on some web page where he got a fairly good NHL goalie recruiting ranking.

Hopefully they can get his ncaa eligibily fixed.

Bet every one of these guys except Mundinger will be in the starting lineup, and Johnson might be iffy. That means a lot of guys who have played quite a few games in a Maine uni are gonna be watching from the stands.

Who are you thinking? Campbell and Morgan are the only two guys I can come up with and Campbell didn't play much last year.

If that is the case they will get blown out of the rink every single night, won't be able to compete in Hockey East

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Hayes, Perez and Gibson could all be iffy, possibly even Vesey if he performs like he did this past season, and Hamilton if Cochrane and Muhlbauer step up.

OK, so maybe not a lot of, all at once, but I can see that group of five or six forwards being the ones fighting to get into the lineup, rather than being locks for places. The ones being rotated in and out for third and fourth line duty.

You're saying these guys are worse than the guys we've had suiting up currently? Cause I really don't see a downside to playing as many freshman as possible. The only forwards I see for a lock in the starting lineup are Brown, Byron, Robbins and Lacroix.

and that is different how?

I know what you are saying, but...
They took Northeastern to ot in both games in playoffs at NU's rink. NU was a tough team at the end

Brian Morgan as a junior is a solid player. Had an off year last year but was better than several of these kids when he played prep and USHL. Just an example

Year 3 or 4 is not when you do a start over, stay with the process and tweak, don't dismantle

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Vesey the guy who started the season on the first line, and ended it on the third? That Vesey? Gonna have to step up his game then. As does Morgan.

Oh, and prep/USHL stats don't mean squat. What are they gonna do for the team here, and now? We'll see.

Vesey is playing, better than any freshmen coming in

I agree about the stats but it does show they can play at a particular level
Smith played on a very good Green Bay team and was just average on team.

The team is not that far off
Watched both vs NU and they were close
