Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

As a sophomore, Shea played on Marshfield's top line and was 8-20-28--No. 2 in goals, No. 1 in assists, tied for No. 1 in points. Numbers aren't very high because the team doesn't play that many games. As a freshman, he was 2-14-16--third in assists, 5th in total points.

Mass hs teams play 20 game reg seasons so you're right.

These kids look like journeymen on paper.

Does Maine have a single blue-chipper on the horizon?

(Just asking.)

Not that I know of. In my opinion, these current commitments are on a level with the players Maine recruited the past two years and an improvement over the previous two. It's difficult to predict how young players will develop, but so far I don't see a significant improvement in the talent level. In fairness, the new coaching staff is still in the first of a four year contract.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Have no idea at all, but I'd be encouraged if Maine got a commitment from one kid or the other who'd blown-up his Junior league...

Wouldn't you?

The three kids Gendron got in the last two weeks are either 96 or 97 birthyears they are still young. Shea putting up 36 points in 20 or so games as a sophomore is pretty impressive for a team that went to the state finals last year. Fossier is currently over a point-per-game pace is arguably the top Tier I Midget league in the country. Spicer has 12 points in 23 games as defenseman is good.

All three have a couple years of development at higher levels ahead of them along with Lucas Michaud who is just getting his prep season underway after a strong fall with the Portland Jr. Pirates U18 team.

The two 95s Gendron has gotten Vesey and Widmar are currently over a point per game along with Ryan Badger a 94.

Liam Pecararo is at a point per game pace in the USHL.

Again its not all about points, look at Brady Campbell he had 40 goals and 29 assists last season in juniors.

I think Gendron is laying the foundation of players that haven't gotten the publicity of other players in their age group. It will be a three-four year process (could be sooner on well the team does) before you see surefire 1-3 rd NHL prospects want to go to Maine. Then again Maine may never come back as a destination for those players due to location and other factors.

At the end of the day, I believe Gendron will be getting guys to fit his style of play.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

With the season at the mid-point,it is pretty evident that next years concern will center around the Goaltending,as Ouellette has cemented the #1 job and has done a great job to date,as for Sullivan he has seen only action in one game and to most he looked rusty from the start and then improved as the game went on...but the job is Ouellette's from here on in unless he hits a skid and it could happen but Maine has to be eyeing someone to compete with both Red-Shirt Matt Morris and incoming USHL Recruit Sean Remeo,at this date(12-16-13)has Maine been in contact with anyone..? I have heard on this thread the names of Alex Morin/Peter Cronin/Elijah Harris....could Maine be looking in Quebec and British Columbia..?

If Romeo is legit and Morris is healthy, I'd say no.....we've seen what kind of mess 3 scholarship level goalies creates and that's not a road I think they need to go down again.

Also as far as Shea and not getting kids "tearing up their junior leagues", how many panned the Boston Advantage kids when they committed? Brown's working out just fine and Pecararo's doing well in the USHL. Kids are committing these days even before they go to JRs, at least in the states. Don't know exactly how the ages work with the Canadian junior leagues but odds are anybody tearing it up in the USHL is long committed.

Much was made of Red being bi-lingual when he came on. Quebec would be a very good bet.

Maine has had a significant number of Br Columbia players over the years. 3 named Kariya. That pipeline dried up under the old regime. There are exactly none, nada, zero on this years roster. It makes sense that Red & co re-establish those contacts that fed the program for several of the glory years.

Yes indeed, maybe not just for netminders but other players...in this era of College Hockey theres players everywhere's but it would interesting to see what those two(QC/BC)could have in store for players. I would think that this Staff has eyes & ears everywhere also.

No question with his connections...yeah he can speak French but Berlin, NH French, not Quebecois francais. :D There is a little difference in accent and use of the language. I don't know that his French speaking from the states really gives him much of an edge 'up there", but I guess it cant hurt.

I speak Lewiston french and believe me, it helps. for one thing, people all over Quebec have a different accent as well. You can tell someone from the Eastern Townships as opposed to someone from Saguenay by their accent. Besides, it is always a great icebreaker because people from Quebec like to know how you know how to speak French and always want to know about your ancestry because of it....at least in my experiences up there. If Red is indeed combing the province it will be an advantage, I just hope he is scouting NB as well. Maine has found some pretty good recruits that way as well.

Ben Guite is from Quebec and certainly is fluent in french. Agree with others that they are looking everywhere for the best players. But getting back to British Columbia and Quebec will both be important and Red and Ben will be able to communicate with any of the french speaking players. Besides Berlin, NH french and Lewiston, ME french are the same as Quebec francais! Where do you think the families that settled in those towns came from?

Yes I know that but different accents, oui? ;) Or maybe its just the swearing that is different, non ?
