Failing that, and if we're gonna have to have TIMMAY around for three more years, two things need to happen.
Need a new coach for the defense.
Need a new coach for the goaltenders.
If TIMMAY gave even a crap about trying to salvage his job, he'd do this in a heartbeat. But frankly, I don't see it happening.

You hit the nail on the head!!! Only one small edit....we never wanted timmay!!!! This clown has basically destroyed this program along with blake and Tyler....he needs resign immediately!!!! He has "de-frauded" the state long enough!!! Fire him asap if he doesn't resign.

Well, I have news for you Timmay, you always have injuries in hockey. Because this is college, you always have youth. Oh, and hard work creates its own luck.
There are no excuses anymore. None. Good coaches find a way to overcome the above, and you are not a good coach. You were fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time and inherited a powerhouse, rode the success of it for all it was worth, and proceeded to drive it right into the ground.
Have fun reading the thread Tim, there are more than five "whackos" on the Internet now.

He sucks, he needs to go, but Maine is stuck with him.

Very well said. It is difficult to invest in the team financially or emotionally when it is apparent that the head coach is not invested in the success of the program.
We're all getting older, losing interest, moving on.........IF the program ever turns it around (ain't happening under TIMMAY!) then many of us will return to the bandwagon. But for now, the magic of Maine Hockey is LONG gone......and there is very little reason to invest money, time or effort on this program.

You make some good points, but this coach is not one you can really support if you want your team to be a winner..if he had any coaching, motivational or tactical skills this team would be in the NCAAs not left for roadkill in the HE quarters....if you are truely a fan of maine hockey how can you support whitehead?

im not saying you guys are wrong to want your coach's head...but your goaltending WAS an absolute abomination.
i know i know...he has to sign off on the recruits, but Sullivan and Ouellette both had a decent pedigree coming in. sometimes the players have to perform.
the reality is that your assistant coaches see these kids play way more than the head coach does, and you have to be able to trust and rely on their opinions. i dont doubt many mistakes have been made, and you all would know better than i since i'm not really a maine fan...but from my vantage point one of the biggest things whitehead is guilty of is being too loyal to whoever is in charge of coordinating their recruiting. whether that is corkum or kerluke i don't know...but to potentially have to fire an alum puts your head coach into a difficult position, so i can see why he has tried to ride it out.
as you guys have pointed out, some more eloquently and intelligently than others, it's just not working.

I wonder how much that TIMMAY has TRULY cost the University of Maine? It's easy to start with his salary........10 years at roughly $150K = $1.5 million. But that is just the start.......how much money has this program lost over the past 5 years in decreased ticket revenue, merchandise/concession revenue, sponsorships, and donations??? My guess is at least another $3-$4 million.......so TIMMAY is approaching $5 million in the RED.

Well, Maine did finish with a better record than last year, but ya, not what you guys were expecting. I had you beating MC in three, but the goaltending bugaboo showed up again. For those in the know, is there even a chance that Whitehead will be fired? It's the thing to do in Hockey East this year...

Not sure what to say about that. It was the best I've seen Merrimack play, and Maine was about par for the course. Can't fault Sully, really, an All-American goalie may have bailed them out but the D played like garbage. Just didn't show up. I'm angry, upset, a little embarrassed, but I can't say I'm surprised.
The hardest thing for me was watching Gus go through the shake line. He was mulling around on the ice for a while afterwards, he was the last guy off. He knows. And he deserved better than what happened this year, and it just doesn't feel right that he's going to go out this way.
Win lose or draw, Timmy or no Timmy, going to the rink to watch Gus was exciting. He was a draw, for me personally and I'm sure for a lot of others. If they couldn't win with him, I don't know what the hell its going to take.

Agreed. Was fun watching Gus...will be a long time before we see a talent like that again in Orono. Next year scares me. We lose our top 5 scorers (I think Gus, Flynn, and Abbott leave early. Why would they stay when they don't have to?). Plus Dee and House. And while some are being optimistic that the D will be better next year, we're losing 3 D-men including 2 of the top 3 scorers. No way the 3 freshmen are better than the 3 we're losing. And wait till Timmay and Corkum get hold of those freshman. Their track record for developing defenseman will be fully exposed.
Would like to be optimistic but this team gets much worse next year. And a bunch of Monarchs, Boston Advantage, and Hill School kids ain't gonna save it.

Thanks to the seniors and the guys who be leaving, good luck in whatever you choose to do. Hope Maine was good to you and after the disappointment wears off you have fond memories of Orono
The goaltending might be better next year but nothing else will. Does anyone think, Cornell, Nemec or O'Neill improved this year, at all?? Cornell and Nemec looked tentative all season and Cornell might have regressed. I think some of the Forwards got better, Mangene, Swavely Beattie, Diamond all come to mind but the losses are killer.
I've followed Maine hockey for along time, watching the brand of product Tim is putting out there is no longer fun, its a chore. Why bother spending my money on tickets, travel, food and whatever else to watch a lousy brand of hockey. I want to see the D take the body, I want see a hip check when the opponent actually has the puck, I want to see something besides a stick check or a poke check. I want to see Maine finish a team not run out of gas or gag on a hair ball. Its really not worth the aggravation. What others have been saying, wake me when a coaching change is made.
