Congrats to the Black Bears on their win tonight. After watching you at BC, I'm amazed it took this long to get the first one.

They played well but VT was all over them late in the 2nd and all of the 3rd. Vt will win easily today if Maine plays like they did in 3rd. No sustained forecheck at all in 3rd for Maine, friggin' ugly. Matty Mo made many nice saves to keep Maine in it.

Maine did play real well in first 2 periods, lots of offense and really could have had a couple more goals.

That was classic TIMMAY hockey last night. Get the lead then play not to lose. In their defense though they probably had no idea how to play with the lead. It was probably like holy crap we scored 3 goals!!! Let's go home. ;)

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Maine had their way offensively in the 1st period, primarily because Vermont didn't play defense. I would expect a different game today from Vermont.

I wonder if Swavely will play tonight after leaving the game last night half way through the 3rd?

If I was a betting man I'd bet VT wins easily this afternoon. if Maine keeps it close after the 1st they may have a chance. I'll bet Sneddon was fit to be tied after game

Yeah, UVM seemed to be still stuck in "morning skate" mode during the first period. I will say though that I thought Maine played really well in the first period. They played with a sense of urgency and seemed to want it more than UVM. So, kudos to Maine for that. I agree, UVM should win if the team plays like it did at the end of the second and for all of the third. That was total domination in every respect! But, anyway, congrats to Maine on the win.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

23 to 2 sog in favor of VT in 3rd. A win is a win I guess

Kinda felt like a loss though, as once again, we see a Maine team decide to play only part of a game. I thought Red would at least beat this aspect of TIMMAY-time out of them, but apparently, it's deep in this team's psyche. They looked scared to be playing in that third period, the classic TIMMAY "play not to lose".

Gotta compete for a full sixty minutes. Swavely said as much in the interview before the third period, but apparently, it's a lot easier to say it than actually come out and do it. Simple stuff, like get the puck in deep, couldn't seem to do it. it's like they forgot everything they've learned in 15+ years of playing the game

3 1 Maine, 2 shortys on same pk and one pp goal. VT can control play but maine has gotten some lanes to the net as VT is trying to get back in game.

Pretty chippy 2nd, still 3 1, Maine looks a lot more confident, we'll see how they handle 3rd.

Maine played their best 3rd period I think I've seen in years. Finally they were getting to pucks first. Granted VT isn't the best team in HE but a win is a win.

OMG, we suck!!! :-( Congats to Maine but, it's true, we suck!

That was a very bad performance by Vermont. This team appears to have lost some of it's skill from a year ago. Their defense which is usually very good, took the weekend off. Two badly needed wins for Maine and they played well. Deserved the two wins.

Agree. Maine played well and deserved the W's. Unfortunately, it seems we've lost more than "some" skill from last year. :(

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Huh... And with Morris in goal both nights? (Not that he wasn't a brick wall last night when UVM shoulda scored 5 in the 3rd.)

No one on this thread, including me, thought the Black Bears would sweep UVM this weekend. They did. Let's give them some respect and some support. At 0-8-3 this thread gets negative, and justifiably so. A turn-around has to start somewhere. Go Bears.

Its a long process. Takes time, but getting there. Freshman getting a lot of valuable lessons. Think they will turn into a solid, dependable group.
