Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Thank god that Maine has a dynamic goaltending duo!

If Maine had any offensive talent I doubt NUs goalie would look very good either not sure how you can't score on him but it takes a special forward to miss wide open nets. The D hung Morris out to dry, yeah he didn't play well but the D was so god awful its pathetic. Not sure what your beef with Romeo is, he played well

Actually, Romeo stood on his head for most of the time he was in there. Spectacular save robbing Reid on the 2-on-1. Plus a little puckluck on the two posts and one crossbar. I'm assuming NU gets to see him again tomorrow. Kudos to your guys for clawing back instead of mailing it in.

I really like the Maine TV play-by-play team. The call it from a Maine perspective (of course) but the analysis is incisive and understandable, and they're not cheerleaders a la Jack Edwards.

Unfortunately the game was over by the time he entered the game. I bet he gets the start tomorrow night......with similar results.

Dan Hanigan is a consummate professional. Mike Tuell on the other hand is a ........tool. He and Larry Mahoney are both pretty insufferably difficult to listen to.
Northeastern looks exceptionally good right now. Gonna take a behemoth effort from Maine to take any points away from these guys. Maine'll need to wack anything that moves tonight.... if they can catch 'em :)

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

I missed the broadcast of last night's game so I went to the hockey east website to watch the highlights. If you ever want an example of Maine having a Mickey Mouse athletic department, just compare the Maine video highlights to everyone else in the league. It's an embarrassment. Terrible production value, no play by play, in slow motion for some reason. No graphics. No post game comments. The game was on TV last night, just use that!

Between that and whoever runs the twitter feed making comments you would see at an under 8 girls soccer game "we are down 1-4 but trying real hard!" I am ready to shut this goddam thing down. This is division one athletics and UMaine is a mockery in all respects.

UMaine needs to hire some Husson grads to run their media driven entities. I agree that the Twitter feeds have been pretty pathetic.....especially the in-game updates.

Unacceptable terrible performance. We all know this. Offense, defense, specials, goaltending all appear to have stunk. Is there anyone among the Maine Hockey faithful that still believes that that goaltending is not the #1 problem? But I also believe that it is #1 by a hair. Problem 1a = defense, problems 1b and 1c = offense and specials.

The common belief is that when you recruit a kid and he accepts, he's yours for 4 years (obviously excluding special situations like Lomberg). I'd like to see Red shatter this common belief and sheet-can 4, 5 maybe 6 eligible-to-return players and bring in fresh blood that wants to compete, try, give the effort, earn their scholarship. If my math is correct, there are 5 seniors gone as well, none of whom are difference makers. Look, I am a glass-half-full guy and a diehard Maine Hockey supporter. I just took my glass and threw it against the outside of my freakin' garage.

And NFN, but #10 and #94 are not gonna be getting any calls from the bigs for next season either.

And Pecararo is gonna be on a milk carton any day now. Wow, what did he do (or not do) to get canned for 3 straight games.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him tonight unless he's hurt. Based on what Red has said in the past, if you sit out you may not get back in if the guys who replaced you play well. The Merrimack games were successful so the guys who were on the ice there got another shot. Last night not so much.

Then again it's senior night, so Ceretani might play tonight.

Goaltending wasn't the problem last night. Well, Morris wasn't particularly good, but Romeo was outstanding. Problem is, neither one got any help at all from the defense. You can't let guys stand uncovered at the goalpost while your d-men are standing at the bottom of the circles, that just isn't going to work well. And I forget which one it was, the third or fourth goal, Higgins I think it was was in the center of the slot, and inexplicably goes rushing out toward the point, while at the same time, the NU forward is jetting toward the open spot that he just left. Wide open, gets the pass, bingo, puck's in the net. And why they still can't play a 2 on 1 properly, I have no idea.

Not good positionally, seemingly don't have any hockey sense whatsoever, and not physically strong enough to win the battles down low and in the corners. When you leave an opponent uncovered, and they have a wide open shot, they're gonna bury it. Unlike Maine forwards, who'll miss a wide open net from 2 feet away..

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Maine came out flat at home against Notre Dame on Saturday when they last played two games at home for a weekend series. There was a lot of talk and speculation that perhaps they had to expend too much energy the night before on their tie to play that well again the next day on Saturday in the final game of the weekend against Notre Dame. Did Maine deliberately save their energy and their best for the final game of the weekend series against Northeastern? Yeah, they did well both games last weekend against Merrimack, so they're capable of playing a full weekend, but could they have held a little back as a team last night in anticipation for tonight's Senior night?

Why on earth would they hold back last night just because tonight is senior night?

They are just not talented.

Northeastern has a game Monday and generally every goalie gets both Beanpot starts because there's an award for lowest GAA among goalies who make both starts. So it's either play Roy or play Witt 3 times in 4 days.

I'm surprised he only went half way. I would have rested more guys.

Good job on the broadcast not showing a replay of the goal that was waived off.

Also, Maine needs a miracle from UConn in the third period down 3-1 at UNH or Maine is likely finishing 10th and will have to play at UVM, Notre Dame, or NEU in the first round.
