Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

BU isn't gonna rest their top lines when they play ND next weekend, why would Northeastern rest theirs? That's not how you play hockey. Can't look past any game.
I'm not sure what you're getting at. Finishing 4th at HE would be much better than finishing 6th. Not getting home ice last year KILLED them, and not playing well at the end of the season cost them their NCAA bid. And at this point the only really shot for NU to get into the NCAA tournament is to win HE, so why sacrifice any league points?
Sure, the Beanpot isn't something to overlook. It's been 27 years. But business needs to be taken care of first.

Hahaha you sound like a BC fan. Just because you would like it if Northeastern left their top guys at home because it would benefit you, doesn't mean that's the right thing to do, nor does it mean that it's gonna happen. I guarantee you, it's not. Northeastern is gonna give it their all next weekend and at the Beanpot, and the only real "resting" you can expect is that Witt and Roy will likely split the start in net so Witt is fresher on Monday.

None of your reasoning makes any sense, sorry.

Why wouldn't BU rest some of their guys? They're pretty much guaranteed first place in Hockey East and they definitely are in as far as the NCAA's go. If I was Eichel I would want Quinn to do everything possible to put me in a position to win the Beanpot where it's likely his only go at it. Do you really think where as you said it's been 27 years since Northeastern has won the Beanpot that this season wouldn't be an incredible success if that is all they won? It's obviously not impossible but do you really think there is much of a chance of Northeastern winning eight games in a row to be national champions?

It makes no difference to me what lineup Northeastern runs out as far as being a Maine fan. We're not going anywhere this year and I think this weekend is probably a split regardless of who Madigan plays or doesn't play.

BU

his reasoning makes perfect sense. do you know who marty schottenheimer is and how he fared by never resting any of his players?

I do not think that Northeastern needs to run on all 8 cylinders to beat maine, but they will have to to beat BU... also, an advantage Northeastern has in the beanpot is that BU will be playing a much faster team for 2 games than Northeastern will.

Disagree with this. It's really luck of the draw and finishing higher doesn't necessarily mean you will have an easier opponent. For example, if the season ended today Maine would play at Uconn. If Maine moved up a spot they would play Northeastern. Who would you rather play?

just out of curiosity, have any of the posters who would rather have played NEU changed their minds after all the hat tricks UConn's Kenny Dryden let in this past weekend?

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

So apparently the guys weren't so exhausted from their effort on Friday that they couldn't play a good game on Saturday also, even with the shorter turnaround?

I guess when you play a team closer to your talent level, the turn around time is not so important . With a talent gap like ND to ME that turnaround time is cuz you spend so much energy the first night trying to stay with a more talented team. Makes perfect sense.

Is this for real? Hell, why not rest 'em until the HE Final at the Garden? Wait, that's dumb. Rest them until the NC game.

What did Peccararo do to get to wear street clothes both games last weekend? A promising Freshman with scoring capability...sits out the weekend.

He probably needs to figure where Maines end of the ice is.???

I think he's shown streaks of what he's capable of doing, but hasn't brought that effort consistently. Some games he's really good, other games you don't notice him. It may be that his defense is suspect, it may also be that Red expects more from him, every night, not just now and then. Seemed to work for Merchant and Vesey.

you don't happen to notice how Jerry "rests" his top players do you??? Jerry realizes that games in October through about early January just do not matter... he is figuring things out and getting playing time for everybody while he figures out chemistry and plays mind games wtih all of his prima donnas... once March rolls around, things are drastically different.

if he played his top D pairs and top lines all season long like he plays them in the third period of a playoff game then he would only need to dress 10 players... nobody shortens a bench like Jerry.

so why should a 3 game weeked for NU be any different than the way Jerry looks at his whole season... play the first two games one way, while looking forward to the important game and playing that game differently

it continues to amaze me that when a player looks fast against a crap team, some people see that as "putting forth effort" while when the player looks like a D3 third liner against, e.g. BU's second line, "the effort is just not there".

how come the quality of the opponent is never taken into consideration?

so does the D. I cannot tell you how many times Morris way WAY out of position after making an initial save with the D standing around (AGAIN) and Merrimack just could not put the puck into an open net this past weekend... Rodrigues, Eichel, OReagan Lane and Oksanen are going to put 8 a game in against Morris and Maine's D if Maine plays like that against BU.

Roy, Aston-Reese, Szmautla (Montgomery's boys) and even Saucerman are gonna eat that up as well.

Well he played the second night against Notre Dame. Why don't you ask Red that question? Did he not put in effort against ND, or did he just look like crap cause he's no good?

Maine rarely puts the puck in an open net

What are the odds that this won't be the last time we have a weekend of hockey at the Alfond this season?

NU is good PC is good. I can see maine getting at least one point from NU, can't see them getting any from PC. As far as PC goes, one word, Gillies. Maine can't beat good goaltending. Everyone is excited they swept a lousy MC team. Everyone is excited they are playing better in the 2nd half(look at the competition). I say until they show me they can do it(battle for 60) on a consistent basis. Who knows? :)
