Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

My thoughts exactly; those three goalies are the best I've seen this year, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see any one of those guys carry his team into the FF.

I'm running my usual college hockey pool at work this week, and I hope to exceed last year's 38 betters this year. (People are willing to wager on any obscure sport, when you only ask them for a $2.00 ante, and some of them actually watch the games as a result of having -literally- a couple of bucks riding on them.)

FWIW, my dark-horse this year is Colgate, but if I had to bet my life on it, I'd go with Union.... (The "EZAC" is no more.)

BC is more skilled than Union, but not by a whole lot, and the latter has better 'tending and D... And Minnesota has always found a way to blow it.

My provisional pick would be UML, which is on quite a roll.

Vermont is overrated so I won't be surprised if they get blown out:

My Frozen Four: Lowell, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Qunnipiac, with the Gophers winning it all.

I'm pretty sure Brice signed with ECHL team. Marty will get a shot but not sure about the others. Sullivan was a great student and I'm guessing he might pursue opportunities outside of hockey.
Brice signed with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL. He has one assist in two games. His brother played for the Thunder a couple years ago, and Joey Diamond was recently sent down to the Thunder (he has three assists in three games). Link is here

FROZEN 4: UMass-Lowell - Union - North Dakota - St.Cloud State --- Nat. Champs: UML

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

If PC gets that far, it means that Gilles is on his game... And when he is, watch out for the Friars.

Anyone going to Worcester to see Denver play? I live only 30 minutes away so I'm planning on it.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Boston College, Union, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Gropers grab the hardware.

Lowell is coming out of that region and the Empire might not even get past Denver. Watch out for the Q in the East as well

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

So far the only non-con series we know about will be 2 at Union and the trip to Alaska. A potential series with Minnesota-Duluth will have to wait until 2015 at the soonest. Denver is a serious consideration for a home-and-home.

Home (11)
2 UMass
2 Notre Dame
2 Northeastern
2 UConn or Lowell
1 Boston College
1 Boston University
1 New Hampshire

Maine will play 2 at home with either Lowell or UConn, with 2 road games against the other.

Road (15)
2 Merrimack
2 Providence
2 Vermont
2 Lowell or UConn
2 Union
1 Boston College
1 Boston University
1 New Hampshire
1 Alaska
1 Alaska-Anchorage

Neutral (2)
1 New Hampshire (Portland)
1 New Hampshire (Manchester)

That's 28 of the 36 allowed games. I would expect 6 of the 8 to be home games, as you don't play exempt games in Alaska so you can play an extra road series.

There are 10 games left. Of those I would estimate 8 will be at home. You don't play exempt games to play extra games on the road.

I would imagine that Vt would come in for 2 non conf at Alfond.

I hope that we see at least 1 Big Ten team on that schedule. Seems that Michigan and Michigan State are visiting UMass-Lowell and BU.

Please NO!!!!! No more non-conference games vs. Hockey East!(excluding UNH).......especially the Vermonts and UMass's of the world.

That means Maine would owe a pair to UMass, which would complete the road schedule. I really hope UVM and UMass can find someone else to fill the dates.

There were rumors last summer of a series with Penn State. Denver coming in for a pair this season with a return trip next would be excellent. Thanks to Maine playing in the Icebreaker next year they'll have two extra home dates again, which could be used on the UMD series (with a return in 16-17).

With the two neutral site games we are up to 28 of 36. If (God forbid) UMass and UVM want return games, that would leave only 4 home games on the docket.

ETA: There is a game at Yale in the works, which would bring Maine to 16 road games. Add in the 2 neutral site games and I think that should fill the road slate. That would give Maine 18 home dates (7 more to go). That tells me the return games with UVM and UMA are not in the cards.

I have a feeling (and hope!) that the UMass and Vermont games last season were a 1 time thing (probably brokered by Hockey East).

Those games would be a hell of a lot better than midweek exhibition games against Canadian teams. Of the 10 free dates remaining I would be surprised if more than six were at home, unless Maine junks up its schedule like last year.

I expect we'll see a series against an AHA team (Canisius?) and a single game against one (hopefully not Bentley AGAIN).

From a pairwise perspective, Maine should be targeting Ohio State, Penn State, Colorado College, Denver, Miami, Alabama-Huntsville and Lake Superior. Notre Dame finished 8th in Hockey East but fattened up its OOC schedule with 3 games against UAH, 2 with Lake and 2 with Tech. Under the new pairwise system (and RPI formula) that is about as perfect as they could have planned it.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

With that schedule, they're gonna have to have a much better road record than they did this season.

Yeah, but as always isn't it going to come down to $$. If they have a couple of slots to fill they'll take the cheapest route. Which means a short to medium bus ride.
