Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I don't agree. I think its only fair to be consistent in judging teams. I've always said I don't think its all that difficult to get to the Garden (Leaman did it in year 1 and Bazin made NCAAs year 1) and for a Maine team to fail to get there is just as bad now as it was when TW did. All of a sudden saying that its OK because TW is gone....to me that's completely unfair. I've never thought this team/program was as bereft of talent as some others and I had them 4-5 preseason. 6 is worse than I hoped. Not stunning but certainly not good.

Maybe they're moving in the right direction and I like a lot of the young guys, if they stick around. I like the defensive style better than the poke check. But the last three weeks of the season were a total punt. Saying that and saying hopefully the future will be better aren't mutually exclusive.
+1, I doubt Red gives himself a pass. This team ended in the same position they would have under Tim. Did I enjoy the season more, no doubt, much better style of hockey to watch but in the end they fell apart. Some of that has to be on Reds shoulders. He won't shy away from that.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

This was and still is a Rebuilding Process,no matter what this is going to take at least another season and into year #3 of the Gendron Era...highs/lows...peaks and valleys...I came into this season expecting improvement in game prep/conditioning and most of all a change in the mindset on the way this team would play...they met all, true they went down the last 8-10 games of the season...but again this is a process that will take patients...now Gendron/Leach/Guite know what needs to improve/change and plan for 2014-15...imo size needs to be addressed in the defenseman and forward positions...need a better presense in front of the net both on D & O...need a finisher in the goal scoring department, someone or two that when they have the puck can score,Goaltending will be the key again and going into next season there will be 3 going for the #1 job(Morris/Nugnes/Remeo)...with that most likely the Question-mark going into camp...there won't be no overnight fix,but I expect that Gendron and Crew will be up for the task. Losing the last game of any season does not sit well, but a-lot of times you need to lose to learn how to win.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

A solid rebuilding year under Red. He needs to get his talent and type of player onboard, nodoubt. Only so much you can do with a team full of midgets :D. Obviously PC found the recipe to slow them down, muck it up and pack it in in front of Gillies. Its ugly, but effective. I think also that Ouellette hit the wall towards the end of the season. He had too many easy ones this weekend that would have been saves earlier in the season. Kind of wished we had gotten to see a full game out of Sully to see what he had to offer. Moral of this season is if you play balls to the wall all season to get home ice, you better not let it slip away.:)

Ps... patients is what doctors fix in hospitals, patience is what Maine fans need more of ;)

I agree. This team was fun to watch for the first half of the season with their aggressive style of play. They peaked way too early and the opposition adjusted to Maine's style of play. They were beat up and had nothing left for the second half of the season. A total collapse that the coaching staff is at least partially responsible for. With only one road win all season, finishing in 6th place, getting swept in the quarter finals, it's hard for me to say (at this point), the team is better under this coaching staff.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Hard not to be disappointed by the TimmayTime collapse but when the team couldn't win in the road I sort of expected things to fall apart at home too. Maine just was not good.

To use a football analogy, it was a "Red Zone" collapse.:D

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Not enough talent at this point, only so much you can do. Some talent is there but like UHN, for example, not enough high end talent. That's got to be addressed by the new staff and I think they will. We will be bigger and stronger in the future once Timmy's recruits graduate.... so it will take time. Hard work beats lazy talent but does not beat hard working talent. We have piece #1 and the culture of it engrained , now to correct some past recruiting... say we shall generously....lapses.;)

Bingo. 2 goal scorers....one being a D man. No size on D....no size anywhere really, with above avg goaltending being the reason for a lot of the wins. That's not a formula for a strong team down the stretch. You can smoke and mirror it during the 1st half of the season but when you start meeting teams that are coming together and have decent coaching in the latter part of the season, it's not too hard to game plan for a team like Maine.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Not real happy with the results, but I still love the compete level of this team.

Well you are delusional. Timmy would have had this team firmly in 10th or 11th place and Devin would have bolted for Austin mid season under whitehead. Sweetland's advisor didn't want Andrew sticking around to lose all hockey sense. And tgat is just one example

This was a rebuilding year, as is next year.
Learn the game and what goes on behing closed doors. Stop defending whitehead!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

The weekend at Notre Dame killed this team, it wasn't like Jeff Jackson had some special plan, Maine simply choked. It was all downhill from there. Its as if they came to the realization that they weren't good enough to compete with the big boys. They need size and speed.

From an outsider, they played even with PC in the first, got into penalty trouble in the second and completely dominated the game in the third. they certainly showed up.

You beat me to the bunch. This 'collapse' talk is a bunch of nonsense. Maine could play Providence 10 times and might win once. I would like to know which games down the stretch Maine lost that they should have won. If you finish in the league ahead of two NCAA teams you've had a decent season, which Maine did. Once Maine gets some size in things are only going to get better.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I'd like to apologize to all the Maine fans and particularly the very nice family whose child had to witness a fat slob of a fan ruin the night for so many and embarrass PC fans everywhere.
I normally sit in my seats behind the goal where Maine exits the rink but sat upstairs for this game. I missed the interaction but heard from many PC fans who were there that some newbie was taunting one of Maine players then he began swearing at a Maine fan who told him to shut up. I'm very sorry that the family was subjected to that and I'm sorry that this tool didn't have the class enough to realize that his actions would upset the youngster.

I know incidents happen at times at sporting events but it takes a special kind of DB to act up like that and especially toward a family.

Please know that many of us regulars are extremely embarrassed that the clown in question was a PC fan and I'm so sorry that this nice family (who I did get so see briefly before they left the arena) had their experience ruined. I wish we could make it up to them in some way. Newbie does not represent us and I'd like to send my apologies to the family.

Couldn't say it better myself.

Okay fine... now return the dam alternator you stole. Its one thing to steal our hockey virginity... its another thing to steal our car parts

Thank you. That was very well said. Both families involved said they received support from other PC fans in the section and know this one guy does not represent the fan base as a whole. I met Cole (the 4 year old) this morning as the family was packing for the ride home. He is a great kid and Maine is fortunate to have him in the fan base. One of the other fans gave him a Black Bears banner. The girl involved is named Kimber. There is a great picture of her with the sign she made for the game on her mom's Facebook page.
Rest assured the Maine fans in attendance know this is one guy. Anger this morning was at the security who did nothing to that guy.
You have a hell of a team, especially that goalie. Good luck at the Garden next weekend.

Great post, the guy was an idiot, doesn't mean you are all idiots. Enjoy your team, I saw enough to know they are pretty good:)

Notre Dame is one game they should have won
