Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I feared they might not handle PC on night 2, and that's pretty much what happened. They just don't have the horsepower and size right now. Hopefully that gets corrected. I know most on here lamented the lack of quickness and speed on this team 4 or 5 years ago.... may have been corrected but I think they went overboard and forgot to recruit at least some size up front. Walsh always had a nice mix of speed and size in his forwards... hopefully the recruits on board and in the pipeline help fill those holes. And I won't even discuss the defense. I made a post yesterday then took it down after some thought. No need at this point to rip an individual.... lets just be patient and see what the staff brings in. By all accounts though it appears we will be sizing up in the future.

Gotta be a tough one on the Red. Sure he hoped for the fans sake he could turn the Timmy momentum around in one season and he almost pulled it off. It will take another season or two to get his guys in here and see what he can do. It was an interesting and tantalizing run, but all good things must come to past. So long as we don't become another UHN with their choking characteristics, I'll be fine. :)

++++

It would be easy to rip into the team, individuals, coaches, etc.......but it is what it is. The team bought into Red for 2/3 of the season and then fell apart during the last month. They did not match-up well with the size and physical play of Notre Dame, Merrimack, and Providence.......and Northeastern just had more talent. I had really hoped that at minimum this team was going to secure home ice this season and get to the Garden. That would have been a great base to build on but it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully, this becomes a teaching moment for Red........and an audition for playing time for a few players on this team. Lots of new recruits coming in next season!:)

On, D, Malcolm Hayes (Cushing) is listed as 6'3" 215; Mark Hamilton (BCHL) is 6'2 210. Up front, Musil has a little bit of size.

What's going to matter is how well they can skate. Preston Ryan wasn't exactly 6'4 233, but he could skate.

...and, of course, goaltending. Maine will have 2 former USHL goalies (Morris & Romeo), plus Nugnes. Could be some growing pains, but I bet at least one of them is up for the job. Other schools break in goalies all the time. It'll be a challenge, but it can't be an excuse. Fingers crossed for incremental improvement again next season, and maybe a push in 2015, provided the goalie situation is sorted out?

You have to wonder if Gillies comes to Maine if Red was coach, or Dumolin or etc
Those players were NEVER coming to Maine...there sights were outside of Maine and playing elsewhere...no matter if it was Gendron...he would have tired hard but as younger kids they had their sights set outside of Maine Hockey.

Watched last nights game from the student section. It seems to me this entire season came down to this one game and they couldn't ratchet things up and play with a sense of urgency until the third period. Their lack of size is obvious. Oulette was not at his best. Too bad. One stinkin win and they could have been right where they needed to be. When Shore or Hutton aren't scoring goals they don't have enough other finishers. Progress was made this year, and perhaps they get by Mack at the Fond but then the party is over.

The regular season ended on a sour note for sure, but really at the start of this season did you expect to be at a point that Home Ice would be up for grabs...and at this time last year...how did you feel about anything with this Program changing..? Patience and a Work in Progress...with MANY ups/downs & highs and lows...this is a START and even thou it smells at the end...there is a Positive Future for Maine Hockey...look ahead, the past is GONE. BELIEVE..!

The biggest incoming forward is the transfer Andrew Tegeler. He is 6'2" and 200 lbs. He transferred from UMass and in between played a season with Vernon Vipers of BCHL. I am not sure, but it seems like he would be considered a junior with two years left to play in NCAA.

Nolan Vesey is listed as 6' and 175 lbs. Joe Widmar is listed as 6' 205 lbs. And as you mentioned Jack Musil is listed as 6'1" and 175 lbs. Ryan Badger is listed at 5'10" and 180 lbs.

Liam Pecararo is the smallest at 5'9" and 150 lbs. But he also seems to have played and scored well in the USHL, so I imagine he is a player that despite his size he will be an effective forward for Maine.

Never know what the recruits are until they start playing though. But according to what I am looking at(assuming nobody leaves the program or is cut) there will be 6 extra forwards, 3 extra defensemen, and 2 extra goalies. I think this will set up a healthy competition in practice where people have to work hard to make the line up. This, and another year under the belt for the top players, and another year of coaching by the new staff should improve the line up overall.

So the future seems to bring more size to the line up. And that doesn't help now. So maybe the future should be pulled into only 7 PM Saturday night. :)

I think it would be great if Maine gets that W and then gives it everything they've got when they travel to Providence for the quarter finals. If they close out the season with the effort they showed for most of the final period last night... win or lose this fan would consider the season was good progress.

Don't feel bad boys, at least you made it into the HE playoffs this year!! ;)

That would in some way mimic what they do at UHN. We want nothing to do with that. ;) Before you know it, our trophy case would be empty.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I think a lot of it was just nerves. They were feeling the pressure and were tight. It happens.

Just ask UNHSince1969. I'm sure he's seen it a lot.

Worse gack...Maine 0-3-1 in the last 4 or N'eastern getting swept by BU to blow home ice?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Tickets are on sale now (online) for Saturday's playoff game. A few changes:
All tickets are $23. No $50 seats for this game.
Limited (167) balcony seats are available in sections EE and FF.

Tickets will go on sale by phone or in person at the box office tomorrow morning.

I had read somewhere that tourney ticket prices were set by HE, and tourney ticket revenue went to HE.

Any idea how ticketing works at the 1-3 seeds, since the visiting team is unknown?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I got a 50 dollar seat, for 23 of course. haven't given up hope :)

Not sure whats up with Marty but he hasn't been himself the last few weeks. That first goal was awful. The young guys have been getting pushed around all season. not surprising it takes some time to get used to the size and pace. Win next Sat. and go into PC and do their best. All you can ask.

I hate to think we're supporting the awful Hockey East officiating with our ticket purchases, but I suppose it's one of those necessary evils... I'm glad Priceless mentioned that ticket sales were going on already because I went over to the website and got mine already! Nice to see the reasonable prices too so hopefully there will be a capacity crowd with better results than this weekend. I can't believe the shots on goal that Merrimack put up against UNH last night.

I saw the PC hockey account tweet that tickets would go on sale tomorrow against the lowest remaining seed (probably Maine). They aren't waiting to find out who they are playing.

Highest, right? The lowest goes to BC, next lowest to Lowell, and the highest of those playing next week to Providence. Unless I have completely misunderstood the whole thing, which wouldn't be the first time.
